Summary
Nintendo has not officially announced a newSuper Smash Bros.game, but such a release is inevitable, and when it does come out, it should have Kazuma Kiryu of theYakuza/Like a Dragonfranchise as part of its roster of playable characters.Super Smash Bros.started as a love letter to Nintendo history, but it eventually expanded to embrace gaming in general. RecentSuper Smash Bros.titles have added characters and stages from third parties and even direct competitors.
Presumably, the nextSuper Smash Bros.game will do the same. The jury is still out on whether thenextSuper Smash Bros.gamewill feature all the characters fromUltimateor start fresh, but it’s a virtual guarantee that the game will feature some fresh faces. EverySuper Smash Bros.game has had new playable characters for fans to try, and it’s highly unlikely that the nextSuper Smash Bros.game will be an exception to the rule.

When the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally unveiled, the announcement of the nextSuper Smash Bros.game won’t be far behind. New characters will likely be revealed for the roster on a regular basis leading up to the game’s eventual launch, but it’s anyone’s guess as to who will be featured. As far as third-party guest characters go, I think one must-have is Kazuma Kiryu ofYakuzafame. Kiryu’s various fighting stances could inspire a uniqueSuper Smash Bros. moveset, plus Sega seems interested in expanding its long-running franchise to Nintendo consoles. Adding Kiryu to theSuper Smash Bros.roster would be a great way to introduce him to fans and potentially get them interested in his games.
Kiryu Would Be Perfect for Super Smash Bros.
Yakuza Kiwamiwas ported to the Switchlate last year, but there are plenty of otherYakuzagames ripe for ports. The Switch 2 is going to be more powerful than the original Switch, potentially opening the door for the entireYakuzaseries to come to the console over time. Sega has not announced any games for the Switch 2 yet, butYakuzaports do seem like an obvious choice.
While Nintendo and Sega used to be bitter rivals, the two companies have proven to be great partners for the past couple of decades. In fact, Sega has already allowed some of its characters to be featured inSuper Smash Bros.Joker was DLCforSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, while Sonic the Hedgehog has been featured in every game sinceBrawlon the Wii. While theYakuzafranchise’s M rating and Kiryu’s smoking habits may have once thrown a wrench in the plans,Super Smash Bros.has long featured characters from M-rated games, and so that shouldn’t be a roadblock. In any case, Kiryu has solidified himself as one of gaming’s most iconic characters, and he truly seems like a perfect fit forSuper Smash Bros.
