AMD executives attributed the 9800X3D stock shortage to Intel’s ‘horrible’ Arrow Lake desktop CPUs in a roundtable interview withTom’s Hardwareat CES 2025. Although they have ramped up manufacturing for the X3D chips, there is still no clear timeline for a 9800X3D restock. If your gaming PC is on its last legs, or you want to build a new PC now, the latest non-X3D Ryzen chips are your best bet.
Save $90 on the Flagship AMD Ryzen 9 9950X and 9900X
The Ryzen 9 9950X and 9900X are AMD’s high-end gaming and productivity chips for the mainstream market. You can’t go wrong with either if you’re looking for a gaming CPU that can handle modern games and demanding productivity tasks.
The 9950X’s 16-core/32-thread configuration outperforms the 9800X3D and 7800X3D in multithreaded work like video editing, while still offering excellent gaming performance. Stepping down slightly to the 9900X gives you excellent productivity performance without hurting your wallet.
AMD Ryzen 9 9900X
Originally priced at $649, the Ryzen 9950X has dropped to $564 on Amazon, marking an $85 discount from its official MSRP. Notably, this chip has been on sale several times since the release of the 9800X3D, but this is the first time it has slipped below $599. Those looking for productivity firepower at an even lower price can pick up the Ryzen 9 9900X, now retailing for $409 after a $90 discount on both Amazon andNewegg.
Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X Prices Reduced by Up to $35
The Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X are also on sale at decent discounts, bringing the mid-range chips to nearly their lowest prices. The 9700X, in particular, has become one of thebest mid-range gaming CPUsafter a series of BIOS and Windows updates fixed most of the issues that plagued it at launch. It delivers an excellent combination of gaming and productivity performance, with the new 105A power mode unlocking a significant amount of extra performance.
AMD Ryzen 5 9600X

On the lower end of AMD’s 9000 lineup, the Ryzen 5 9600X is retailing at its lowest price ever after a 12% discount. Coming in at $245, it’s hard to find a better gaming CPU without spending more.
