GQuuuuuuXis the latest installment in the franchise, and it’s the firstGundamseriesproduced by Studio Khara, the studio that currently owns the rights to theEvangelionseries and also the studio that produced theRebuild of Evangeliontetralogy.
According toJapanese accounts on social media, during a radio program titled MAGIC JAM that aired on January 29,it was revelaed thatGQuuuuuuXwill debut in April 2025. Furthermore, Tomoyo Kurosawa, who voices Yuzuriha Amate/Machu in the new series, seemingly hinted at an April debut, but later deleted her post:

This series is written byHideaki Anno, creator ofEvangelion, andYoji Enokido, who served as the head writer forSailor Moon SuperS. The series is directed byKazuya Tsurumaki(co-director ofThe End of EvangelionandRebuild of Evangelion) – most of the main staff previously worked at the now defunct Studio Gainax.
Despite Anno’s involvement as both a writer and Khara’s president, Tsurumaki is reportedlyavoiding showing him the development of the production, to prevent being overruled – at least according to the mechanical designer, Ikuto Yamashita. Tsurumaki teased thathe had put some “fan service” forEvangelionfansin the series.
In April 2025, the life-sizeGundamthat could be seen at the now closed Yokohama Gundam Factory will beat the Gundam Pavilion during the Osaka Expo 2025(from April to October), which might be related to the marketing campaign for the new series.
Gundam GQuuuuuuX Prologue Movie
A prologue titledMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-has been screening in Japan since January 17 – it topped the box office in the last two weeks, earning over 1.4 billion yen (around 9 million dollars), and is likely to keep ranking well in the upcoming weeks.GKIDS has already confirmed to screen the movie in North America starting June 24, 2025.Beginningis a re-edited version of the first four episodes of the series.
It has been rumored that the story is a “what if” timeline forGundam 0079, the first series of the franchise. It is set in a colony in outer space – colonies appear most frequentlyin the Universal Century timeline.
In the plot, Yuzuriha is a regular school girl, but one day she meets the war refugee Nyaan. They join illegal fights between mobile suits, the Clan Battles – Yuzuriha uses the name Machu in those fights, and she pilots the GQuuuuuuX. But things go wrong when the police start hunting them.
As the movie will screen internationally, it seems likely the series will also be available to overseas audiences. However, so far, no streaming service has confirmed that it will air the series.
While no official release window forMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXhas been announced, rumors (and potential leaks) tease an April 2025 release. There is no information about the episode count of the series.
