Considering this, it wouldn’t be surprising at all ifPlayStation 5gamers were looking for a similar experience.
Luckily, there are all kinds of 3D platformers available on the PS5, mainly through the classic games available as part of the PS Plus Premium library. While many of the titles are also available as a standalone purchase, a PS Plus Premium subscription gets PS5 fans access to classic 3D platformers from the PlayStation 2 era, including theJak and DaxterandSly Coopertrilogies.
3D platformer fans looking for a newer experience on PS5 should giveBoti: Byteland Overclockeda look.Boti: Byteland Overclockedhas a technological theme and features robotic playable characters, so it has similar vibes to the belovedAstro Bot. Gameplay-wise, it’s not nearly at the same level asTeam Asobi’s masterpiece, but it’s still a great platformer that’s plenty of fun. It’s even more entertaining when tackling its stages with a friend, however.
Boti: Byteland Overclocked is a 3D Platformer With Co-Op
Boti: Byteland Overclockedfeatures split-screen co-op, allowing two players to play through the entire game together. Thelocal co-op supportdefinitely elevatesBotiand makes it much easier to recommend, but it doesn’t hurt that the game is only $19.99 ($15.99 for those with a PS Plus subscription). It may not have quite the same level of polish or fun factor asAstro Botor some of the classic 3D platformers playable on PS5, but it’s still a solid choice, especially for anyone looking for a co-op game to play.
Boti: Byteland Overclocked doesn’t have many professional reviews, but it does have “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam.
Boti: Byteland Overclockedis just the latest local co-op platformer to grace the PS5. Another recent one isThe Smurfs: Dreams, asurprisingly fun 3D platformerthat’s inspired bySuper Mario 3D World. There’s alsoNikoderiko: The Magical World, which plays like a combination ofDonkey Kong CountryandCrash Bandicoot.
Of course, someAstro Botfans may not be interested in trying these other 3D platformers and may be more concerned with more content for that game. Team Asobi has supportedAstro Botpost-launch with updates that have added speedrun challenges andeven a brand-new Christmas-themed stage, but it’s unclear if anything else is on the way. There’s always hope, though some fans may prefer Team Asobi to move on to its next project, whatever that may be.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 is part of the ninth console generation and debuted with a launch lineup that included Demon’s Souls and Astro’s Playroom. The console comes with a Blu-ray disc, although a digital-only edition is also available for a cheaper price.
