The long-awaited photo mode is finally coming toBaldur’s Gate 3in Patch 8, scheduled for release in early 2025. Debuting alongside twelve new subclasses and cross-platform play, photo mode will allow players to pose and decorate their party members to create memorable snapshots of their adventures across Faerun. However,Baldur’s Gate 3’sphoto mode should not neglect one key group of characters: the NPCs who hang out either temporarily or permanently at the party’s camp. These characters, especially Withers, Scratch the dog, and the owlbear cub, are a major part of the journey, and allowing them to be posed and customized in photos alongside party members would reinforce this.
The Baldur’s Gate 3 Party’s Camp Can Play Host To Many Visitors
In addition to the game’s ten recruitable party members and up to four players, the party’s camp can play host to a variety of other NPCs. Theenigmatic Withersis its most permanent, and players can purchase a variety of hirelings from him to fill out their party if needed. The party can also adopt two pets: the loyal dog Scratch, who has recently lost his master, and the fearsome owlbear cub.
In addition to these characters, several others spend a part of the game in the camp. Scholarly but eccentric Volo can visit multiple times to sell his wares, and the young girl Yenna and her cat Grub can become full-time camp dwellers in Act 3 of the game. Other temporary visitors include theaasimar Dame Aylin, the Selunite cleric Isobel, the gnome Barcus Wroot, Wyll’s father Duke Ulder Ravengard and patron Mizora, and more. In Act 1, the camp even plays host to a whole group of tieflings or goblins for a special one-night-only celebration.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Should Be Able To Pose And Decorate Party NPCs
A post from Larian Studios teasingBaldur’s Gate 3Patch 8’s content hinted that there will be tons of poses, stickers, and other decorations available for players to take advantage of in photo mode. So far, the ability to set custom poses has only been confirmed to apply to playable characters, presumably including hirelings. However, these options should not be limited to party members – NPCs who spend time in camp should be included as well.
True, the party could simply huddle around Withers to take a group photo while in camp. Including these characters in the more interactive elements of photo mode would emphasize that they, too, play a role in the game’s grand adventure. It would be great to be able to pose Dame Aylin and Isobel for a romantic moment, or take a picture while petting the owlbear cub orplaying fetch with Scratch. And it would be hilarious to see Withers, often the target for fan humor – such as the mod that renames him “Bone Daddy,” which has consistently been one of the most popular since the release of official modding tools – celebrating or jumping for joy rather than simply standing mysteriously in his corner.
Whateverphoto mode brings, it will be a wonderful addition toBaldur’s Gate 3,allowing players to pay tribute to the hundreds of hours of adventures they have had across Faerun. However, letting players pose and customize NPCs who come to visit or stay in camp would be a great way to emphasize the roles these characters play. After all, the adorable Scratch and ferocious cub are key providers of moral support and moments of levity during the game’s darkest moments, while Withers plays an invaluable role in providing resurrections and class changes. Perhaps players could even be able to take posed photos with their dream guardian while asleep – in both his player-customized appearance and his true identity as the Emperor.
