10Mayrina

A Mother Verses A Witch

While some may find Mayrina to be quite annoying (especially during the first meeting with her), if the player saves her, she will tell them off for getting in the way of her plan. As a result of this revelation, it’s easy for Mayrina to become quite the likable female character inBaldur’s Gate 3.

This isa woman who is grieving the death of her husbandand doesn’t believe she can look after a child on her own. With the player’s help, she realizes that a hag isn’t the answer, and by the third act ofBG3, she can be seen getting a group together to defeat the hag that still lives.

9Viconia DeVir

The Return Of The Mother Superior

Gamers who have played previous titles in theBaldur’s Gatefranchise may remember Viconia DeVir asone of the many companions that they could recruit. Although the player may have gotten a different ending for Viconia in these past games,Baldur’s Gate 3reveals that the Drow Cleric has gone back to her evil ways, with the player meeting her as the Mother Superior of the Shar Enclave in Baldur’s Gate.

While players may not get to talk with Viconia for very long (unless they have decided to hand Shadowheart over to her), this brief meeting and seeing the power she holds easily makes her one of thebest female characters inBaldur’s Gate 3, with many players wishing they could have met her sooner.

8Auntie Ethel

One Of The Most Amusing Female Characters

During the first meeting, Auntie Ethel appears to be quite the good-natured old lady, offering the player a healing potiondue to them not looking very well. However, upon meeting her again, some players may realize that this lady isn’t what she seems.

Pushing Auntie Ethel to reveal herself will cause her to show her true form: a grotesque hag who has been attempting to have a child of her own in order to make another hag. Even though she’s evil, talking to Auntie Ethel is one of the best parts of the game, especially due to her colorful language and accent. Players would be glad to know that they can meet Ethel in both Act One and Act Three.

7Dame Aylin

A Powerful Aasimar

Another one of thebest female characters inBaldur’s Gate 3is Dame Aylin. Players first encounter this angelic lady during Act Two while looking for the Nightsong.

This mysterious artifact turns out to bea daughter of Selune, who has been trapped by evil forces hoping to use their power to keep Kethric immortal. However, freeing Dame Aylin will give the player a strong ally who represents what it means to be a glorious paladin, showing that even women can be strong, powerful, and a little violent.

6Orin

An Oddly Likable Serial Killer

As the only female leader of the Absolute, Orin has a lot to prove about herself, though she does this easily as the avatar of Bhaal. Orin is by far one of the strongest leaders of the Absolute. She is also one of the most violent, adoring murder, blood, and everything that goes with it.

Although players see her for the first time in Act Two, they really get to interact with her in the third act, where she not only toys with the player, shape-shifting into various forms to get to know them, but even kidnaps a member of the party. Even with all the evil she does, some players just can’t get enough of Orin.

5Minthara

She’s More Than An Evil Companion

Some players may have never realized that they can interact with Minthara inBaldur’s Gate 3. Originally, Minthara was only a party member if the players chose toside with the goblins during the first act, but it is now possible to recruit Minthara in Act Two no matter what, so long as one chooses to knock her out instead of killing her.

Minthara is a misrepresented character inBaldur’s Gate 3, with many players assuming her to be a mindless killer. However, she is shown not only to fear the recklessness of Orin, but she also only promotes murder when there is a reason, as she is shown to regret the actions that can happen in the grove. Overall, players should try to recruit Minthara at least once to really get to know her.

4Jaheira

Still One Of The Best Women In Baldur’s Gate

Viconia isn’t the only previous companion in theBaldur’s Gatefranchise that has returned inBaldur’s Gate 3,as the fan-favorite of Jaheira is available once more from Act Two and onward. Although, to many player’s disappointment,Jaheira cannot be romanced inBaldur’s Gate 3, she is still an incredible companion who has a lot of great moments that proves she’s one of thebest female characters inBaldur’s Gate 3.

Meeting the family she has made for herself in Act Three only adds to Jaheira’s character, as it shows that she’s more than a lethal Druid, but that she is also an capable mother who has taught her adopted children how to survive in Baldur’s Gate.

3Karlach

A Powerful Lady With A Touching Story

During the early access ofBaldur’s Gate 3, Karlach wasn’t a companion option. However, since the full game was released in 2023, many were thankful that they got the opportunity to know Karlach for longer. Not only is she a remarkable addition to the team due to her being a Barbarian that can tank hits, but she also has an incredible story.

Karlach’s heart was replaced with an engine that is now nearing the point of combustion. With time running out, the player may help her try to fix it, but in reality, she must accept that her end is coming soon. It’s unbelievable to see how Karlach manages to push on, showing herself to bean incredibly strong womanboth physically and emotionally. On top of that, she is also able to cry, which is only natural for one who believes that their life is coming to an end.

2Lae’zel

A Woman With Some Bite To Her

Lae’zel is the first companion a player meets inBaldur’s Gate 3, with this Githyanki aiding the player in making it off the Nautiloid. Like any Githyanki,Lae’zel is devoted to her Lich Queen Vlaakithand hopes to one day earn her silver sword so that she may ride on the backs of dragons, in honor of her Queen.

This devotion is questioned when Vlaakith is revealed to use her subjects, and Lae’zel must find something new to live for. Although she may appear quite standoffish at first, by earning her respect, Lae’zel is by far one of thegreatest female characters inBG3.

1Shadowheart

God’s (And The Player’s) Favorite Princess

Out of all the female characters inBaldur’s Gate3, Shadowheart is by far one of the best. Not only is she considered god’s favorite princess, but the fans ofBaldur’s Gate 3also seem to agree, adoring their half-elf Queen. Shadowheart is another companion with quite a touching story that plays out alongside the main plot ofBG3.

Starting as a devoted Shar worshiper, players learn that her memories have been wiped. Thankfully, with the help of the player, she starts to remember her family and begins to question her faith. Shadowheart has the strength to continue on, and seeing her change as a person throughout the acts as she becomes free is incredibly touching.
