Heroes of Hammerwatch 2gives you the choice of four classes to start a new game with, and each of them have their strengths. Depending on your playstyle, they’re all viable at different stages of the game and have some fun abilities which let you get through the levels with some ease.
However, when you’re first starting out, it might be a little daunting to try and pick the best class to make sure you can unlock everything for your town. The easier it is to get through the levels in early game, the quicker you’ll be able to get the upgrades you need to take down bosses and get through longer runs. So, here is the best class to pick as your first inHeroes of Hammerwatch 2.

Best Class to Pick First in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2
When you first startHeroes of Hammerwatch 2, you’llhave access to four classes: Wizard, Paladin, Warrior, and Ranger. Each of them have different strengths, and you’re able to make multiple characters from each class if you want to try all of them out. However, if you’re looking for something that will help you level up quickly and unlock more upgrades in town, you’ll want to pick Paladin.
Here are all the abilities you’ll have access to in an early Paladin build:

How to Play Paladin
The main thing that makes Paladin such a strong pick for the early game is the immediate access to Lay on Hands. This is a really strong spell which you can unlock early, and the more you upgrade it, the more healing you get. Especially in the later levels, it becomes crucial to have this healing when you’re still a little bit weak and looking for new gear and upgrades to make your character stronger.
Paladin also starts out with Blessed Strike, which is an AoE attack that has high burst damage and wipes mobs off the map very quickly. Your starter weapons will alos give you access to Mace Bash and Shielf Bash. Mace Bash lets you do damage to multiple enemies at once, further increasing the high damage potential of a Paladin against the large mobs you tend to face on a run. Shield Bash lets you stun enemies, which can give you a quick breather if you’re getting a bit overwhelmed or help you take them down even faster.

As you level up, you’ll also get access to Armored Knight and Conviction. These are more passive abilities that make you stronger and help you regenerate mana quickly. More specifically, Armored Knight will increase the amount of damage you can tank - but you’ll also get a chance to not take any damage.
You’ll need to keep an eye on your mana when you unlock more abilities with Paladin, because Lay on Hands has a fairly high mana cost, and you could run out quickly if you aren’t careful. However, if youpick up some good Trinkets and buffson a run that allows for faster mana regeneration, you’ll practically be unstoppable.

It’s also essential to use Blessed Strike as much as you can, because you’ll mostly be facing mobs in your runs. Because you’re slightly lacking in ranged damage, it can be easy to get overwhelmed, but this spell negates a lot of the danger that comes with the enemies that surround you. If you ever find that you need some time to regenerate your health, don’t be scared to back off a bit and wait until you can cast Lay on Hands or drink a potion.
All in all, Paladin is very good at quickly closing in on enemies and taking them down quickly. This is a great character to have in both multiplayer and single-player lobbies because of their healing capabilities, and you should find that you can level up quickly and build your town up quite efficiently with this class inHeroes of Hammerwatch 2.
