The premiere ofBlue Exorcist -The Blue Night Saga-wastes no time plunging viewers into the heart of its narrative. Rin Okumura finds himself transported forty years into the past, landing in a snow-covered Kyoto. Here, he encounters a younger, unpolished version of his mentor Shiro Fujimoto and a mysterious girl named Yuri Egin, whosefate is intertwined with the infamous Blue Night.
The episode has impressed everyone so far. It managed to masterfully weave Yuri’s tragic backstory withRin’s unraveling understanding of his family’s history. Yuri’s encounter with an unconscious Satan and her struggle for survival was perhaps the highlight, and the episode is undoubtedly a solid start to the season. Hopefully episode 2 expands more on the introduction of the Exorcist Academy, since the premiere has already set up a gripping tale of survival, sacrifice, and the origins of chaos.
