Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Sagais out with yet another episode, “Alone”. In this episode, we dive further into Shiro and Yuri’s past life. So far, we have only seen the heartbreaking amount of suffering Shiro had to go through.
In this episode, we finally see a happy, full-of-life, free Shiro as he completes his exorcist certification. Along with that, we see some super cute interactions between Yuri and Shiro that have made this episode the best one by far. The episode explores Yuri and Shiro’s lives as exorcists and the kinds of missions they have to deal with.

Shiro Becomes An Exorcist
Pops Is Finally Free
The episode starts with Shiro and an exorcist called Fujimoto, who is also Shiro’s guardian. This is the same man with the demon dog who found Yuri and Shiro and sent them to an asylum. Fujimoto commends Shiro on passing his exorcist certification exam. However, as they are exploring the snowy forest, Fujimoto stops for a bit to catch a breath but is attacked brutally by an unknown entity.
Shiro rushes towards his aid but fails to save him as Fujimoto loses too much blood and eventually passes away. As soon as he does, his familiar, thedemon black dog that we also see in the first episode, disappears. Before dying, Fujimoto regrets how he is not able to get Shiro any gift to pass his exam. So, after he passes away, Shiro takes Fujimoto’s glasses as a keepsake.

Enjoying His Freedom
Shiro Fujimoto finally earns his freedom from Section 13 and in quite an honorable way. He becomes a first-class senior exorcist. We also see Yuri in this scene as she becomes the second-class junior exorcist. Her peers acknowledge the fact that Yuri has the capability of becoming a first-class exorcist or an Exwire, but Yuri states that she does not enjoy fighting demons but studying and raising them, which shows how kind-hearted and pure she is. Shiro still behaves rudely towards Yuri, which is quite infuriating to watch.
In the next few scenes, we see Shiro truly enjoying his freedom as an exorcist, going out to bars late at night and making love with multiple women. Shiro is also quite popular among his female colleagues, and despite all the attention and love he gets, Yuri says that he seems quite lonely.
Yuri Proves Her Skills
The next scene takes us on a mission in Mexico, where a huge spirit possesses an important relic and is wreaking havoc. While the exorcists are discussing all the possible solutions, Yuri suggests that it might be a golem and offers to handle the situation.
Yuri confronts the gigantic demon that rushes towards her. Despite the terrifying situation, she remains steadfast and calm. Yuri turns out to be right as the Golem doesn’t attack her, and she exorcises the demon without having to fight it. While everyone praises Yuri, Shiro becomes infuriated with her method and, in a state of anger, pushes Yuri’s friend Rick.
People who hurt others because they are suffering are weaklings!- Yuri to Shiro
Seeing this, Yuri slaps Shiro and calls him weak for hurting people just because he is suffering. Shiro tries fighting back, but before he can even touch Yuri, a powerful blue force stops him.
Yuri Confesses Her Love
Both Yuri and Shiro get sent back to the Academy. Shiro comes to see Yuri taking care of familiars in the garden. Yuri apologizes for her behavior, and she tells her how much he struggled as a child, which is why he got angry when she called him weak. Yuri feels extremely heartbroken and gives Shiro a kiss, which shocks him. While she confesses her feelings to him, Shiro asks her how old she is and tells her she’s still a kid.
Satan Possesses A Body
Rin and Mephisto then visit section 13, where scientists are experimenting with elixir 97. When Rin closely looks at a test subject, the subject opens his eyes, which are blue, hinting that the body is possessed by Satan. Mephisto then goes on to explain that this was the first time that Satan ever possessed a body, but the possession was so unstable that no one noticed it.
Mephisto also claims that it took Satan nine years to adapt and possess this body. As those nine years go by, we see Yuri and Shiro entering adulthood and Yuri becoming prettier than ever. This episode is by far the best one yet, as we get a lot of cute interactions between Shiro and Yuri. Also, they finally get over their differences and form a very good friendship.
The Origin of Satan is also incredibly exciting to watch, and the animation for this episode is executed really well. While this episode was full of smiles and wholesome moments like Mephisto said, this tale will end in a tragedy, so we are pretty excited to see what the next episode has in store for us.
