Ever sincethe teaser forWolf Manwas released, horror fans have been excited about this Blumhouse/Universal Picturesremake of the film from 1941. Written by Corbett Tuck and Leigh Whannell and directed by Whannell,Wolf Manis aboutBlake Lovell (Christopher Abbott), a husband and father who turns into a monster. From the trailer and images that are available, Abbott’s transformation looks terrifying, gory, and gruesome.

Of course,Wolf Manis only as good as the monster himself looks, and thankfully, the Blumhouse movie has awesome practical effects. Likeevery Universal Pictures monster movie reboot, the creature at the heart of the story has to look as realistic and scary possible in order for the movie to be considered a success. AsProsthetics & Special Makeup Effects Designer Arjen TuitentoldBloody Disgusting, a lot of thought and effort went into Abbott’s look. Tuiten said:

“Every time we see Christopher in the makeup, he looks different, and he slowly starts to transform into this beast. I love that about the story. I think there were about [five stages] on Christopher. I think we did five different complete builds of wigs, teeth, lenses, prosthetics, hands, and chests. I mean, it was endless, really, because everything is in camera. It was a lot of work.”

Wolf Manis poised to be a huge hit for Blumhouse, and2025 is going to be a huge yearfor the production company. Other big Blumhouse 2025 releases includeThe Black Phone 2,M3GAN 2.0,Insidious 6,Drop, andThe Woman in the Yard. So far, some reviews ofWolf Manare fairly positive but say it’s not a perfect movie. It also has fairly low ratings onRotten Tomatoes: a 56% rating on the Tomatometer and 64% on the Popcornmeter. Still, many horror fans are curious to check it out as ittells a classic story of a man turning into a monster and his family trying to save him before it’s too late.
