Wonder Weapons have been a core part of theCall of Duty Zombiesexperience since its humbleWorld at Warbeginnings. Usually the most powerful weapons on the map, fans have grown a strong attachment to manyWonder Weapons over the yearsdue to their efficacy, their individuality, and their creativity. AndCall of Duty: Black Ops 6is about to bring back one of the most popular Wonder Weapons of all time.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6has been knocking it out of the park since launch, especially when it comes to its Zombies mode. It seems like that hot streak is only going to grow hotter with the launch ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6Season 2 on January 28, with it set to bring an all-new map to the shooter. Titled “The Tomb,” this new Zombies map will take players to a half-excavated ancient burial chamber that might already spark some memories in long-time Zombies fans. It’s also confirmed that The Tomb will feature some familiar content, with Mimic enemy types making a return, and Death Perception rejoining the Perk-a-Cola line-up.Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Staff of Ice Wonder Weapon is also making a dramatic return, though its appearance inBlack Ops 6raises an obvious question.

Where Have Call of Duty Zombies' Other 3 Elemental Staffs Gone?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Origins Introduced Four Elemental Staffs

The primary Wonder Weapons ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 2’s “Origins” map(andBlack Ops 3’s remastered version of the map), the four Elemental Staffs became instant fan-favorites upon their introduction in 2013. To obtain these staffs, players needed to scour Origins' trench-laden map to find each staff’s three rod components, head to “The Crazy Place” to retrieve each staff’s unique crystal, and assemble the staff at the lowest level of the excavation site, where four statues stand tall.

Each of the four Elemental Staffs had its own unique set of abilities. The Lightning Staff could unleash a bolt of electricity that would chain through enemies, similar to the Wunderwaffe DG-2. The Staff of Fire unleashed a trio of fiery projectiles in a horizontal arc. The Staff of Wind shot Thundergun-like bursts of air. And the Staff of Ice froze enemies. All four Elemental Staffs could also be upgraded, resulting in some of themost powerful Wonder Weapons inCall of Duty Zombieshistory.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s The Tomb Is Only Bringing Back One Staff

It’s just been officially revealed thatCall of Duty: Black Ops 6’s The Tomb mapis bringing back Origins' Staff of Ice. Based on the description of the Staff of Ice in the official Season 2 reveal, the Wonder Weapon’s powers seem essentially unchanged from its original iteration. Players can slow and freeze enemies, unleash an area-of-effect attack, and even revive downed teammates by shooting them, which was originally unlocked when the staff was upgraded.

While the Staff of Ice is often considered the best of the bunch by many fans, it’s a bit odd to see it arrive inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6alone. Hopefully there’s some kind of lore tidbit in one ofThe Tomb’s Easter eggsthat explains the other staffs' absence. In reality, though, it’s likely that Treyarch didn’t want to deliver another set of four elemental Wonder Weapons so soon after Citadelle des Morts' swords.
