As the Control Devil, Makima wanted to accomplish several feats, whether it was inspired by the Chainsaw Devil or her own. While Pochita admits that the way Makima sought out her goals were wrong, all Makima wanted was to create a relationship based on equal ground. But, since she was the Control Devil, someone would always be afraid of her.
In contrast, Nayuta, the reincarnation of the Control Devil, has achieved all of Makima’s desires and more. Even though Nayuta embodies the Control Devil, she differs fundamentally from Makima. This raises the question: what similarities exist between them, and how does Nayuta reflect Makima’s deepest wants and needs inChainsaw Man?

At Their Core, They Are the Same
The Control Devil Always Wanted Connections With Others
At the very core of their being, Makima and Nayuta are one and the same, and the Control Devil is a member ofthe Four Horsemen. The Control Devil is a Devil that embodies the fear of control; although at their very being, these two are one and the same, their beliefs have differed.
At the start of the series, Makima was thought to be a normal human and had done a spectacular job at blending in before it was revealed that she was, in fact, the Control Devil. In Chapter 97,Pochita reveals to Denji in a dreamthat the Control Devil has always wanted to build a relationship with someone and has longed for something like a family. Near the start of the series, with Denji’s arrival, Makima has already begun her plan of building Denji’s family by teaming him up with Aki and Power, although she uses them against them for her own twisted plans.
The Domination Devil has always wanted to build a relationship on equal ground with someone. She could only ever make connections based on fear, so she has always longed to have something like a family.
Although Makima’s wishes to “create a better world” may have seemed extreme with her extent to remove fears in the world to increase happiness, it’s possible this was her way of wanting to be closer toPochita, as he erased several Devilssuch as the Nuclear Weapon’s and AIDs, which has made the world slightly more peaceful with their removal. It’s clear that Makima’s goals have always been centered on family and, in a weird case, protecting others from harm, although she caused more harm than good.
However, after Makima was defeated and eaten by Denji, a new Control Devil was born. InChainsaw Man, If a Devil has been killed, they are returned to Hell and thus be reincarnated. However, although these Devils are reincarnated, they have no memories of their previous lives and will continue to function with their core beliefs in place, which is the fear they embody.
Nayuta is the new Control Devil, discovered by Kishibe in China after Denji completed his task of eating Makima. She reflects Makima’s every want and need. Makima and Nayuta have no doubtsimilar interests, such as Denji and their love for dogs; however, although they are the same at their core, Nayuta differs from Makima.
Chapters
80 - 97
The two versions of the Control Devil are strikingly similar. However, there are also vast differences between them. Makima has lived much longer than Nayuta. Thus, it’s likely the way in which she lived in Hell and on Earth had skewed her way of thinking. Nayuta, on the other hand, was raised by Denji. All that Nayuta now loves and has taken interest in has come from her time with Denji, showing how much he has impacted her way of living.
As Makima was a fan of the Chainsaw Man,Makima devised several plansto ensure she was able to remove Pochita from Denji’s heart. In this case, Makima has fought tooth and nail to ensure Pochita would eat her, as it would be a “privilege” to be consumed by the Hero of Hell; in this way, Makima would ensure her goal of increasing happiness in the world, and she would become part of the Chainsaw Man. Unfortunately, Makima could never attain her dream, as she was eaten by Denji rather than Pochita. Makima had never cared about Denji; she only took him in because Denji had Pochita as his heart.
I made a bet. I bet that she was only ever seeing Chainsaw Man and never really noticed me… From the start, she never really looked at me.
As mentioned above, Nayuta is a reflection of Makima’s every want and need, and while they do have similarities, the reasons behind them differ. Although, at times, Nayuta would brute force her way into having others do what she wanted, Nayuta would not use her powers as the Control Devil indiscriminately unless there was a reason for it, unlikeMakima, who would use everyone as her pawns.
AlthoughDenji was clearly in love with Makima, as she was the first person to reach out to him, Makima never cared for Denji and only sought out the Chainsaw Devil, Pochita. If looked at the situation retrospectively, Makima could have attained what she wanted, as she had already built a family with Aki, Denji, and Power, although Power was more afraid and respected one of the Four Horsemen. In addition, by staying close to Denji, Makima could have attained Pochita and gotten the affection she wanted from Denji; sadly, Makima’s twisted way of thinking quickly soiled that dream.
As Pochita mentions in Chapter 97, the Control Devil has been seeking something to the effect of a family; Nayuta essentially got everything that Makima wanted. Although Nayuta could be seen as the immature version of the Control Devil and had yet to realize the true potential of her abilities, with Denji raising Nayuta, she became capable of somewhat caring for those around her. Although Nayuta is indifferent to others, she does care about the things she likes, which are Denji and the pets.
Nayuta is a reflection of everything that Makima has wanted. Nayuta was able to build connections, whether or not she liked it. AlthoughPochitawas the one who advised Denji to shower the Control Devil with lots of hugs, in this way, Nayuta was able to build the family that Makima wanted, with those around her who weren’t afraid of her and her power. Nayuta was able to get closer to the Chainsaw Man, as Denji wanted to become him, thus, once again, gaining something that Makima wished.
