Hirofumi Yoshida is the contractee of the Octopus Devil, who Pochita had wholly eaten after Denji turned into the Chainsaw Devil. While Yoshida had done everything in his power to restrain the out-of-control Pochita, it was ultimately in vain as Pochita had consumed both him and the Octopus Devil, erasing their existence and a few other Devils along with them.
However, now that Denji and Asa are in imminent danger due to the Aging Devil world not having an exit, Pochita makes Denji barf up a useful Devil to help them in this situation. With the return of the Octopus Devil, how do they now fare inChainsaw Man?

The Octopus Devil inChainsaw Manis the embodiment of the fear of Octopus by humans. The contractee of the Octopus Devil is Hirofumi Yoshida, aPublic Safety Devil Hunter. It is not known what price Yoshida must pay to use the Octopus Devil’s abilities; however, in Chapter 189, Yoshida may have been substituting other human body parts for the Octopus Devil to prevent damage taken to himself. As long as the other person consents, Yoshida can use that body part to summon a significant portion of the Octopus Devil.
Yoshida effectively utilizes the Octopus Devil’s abilities in diverse ways. To summon a large tentacle, he crosses his middle finger over his index finger, forming a pseudo-Octopus shape. This technique allows Yoshida to use the tentacle as a defensive mechanism.
In addition to summoning a large tentacle, when Yoshida says the word “Ink.” the Octopus Devil will produce a large ink-like smokescreen to execute a surprise attack on his enemies, as it conceals his movements, allowing him to get behind his enemies for an attack. In contrast, this attack helps inhibit the movements of his enemies if Yoshida is up against a seasoned fighter. This attack can be useless.
Although little is known about the Octopus Devil’s personality, it seems incredibly subservient to Yoshida. Many times, such as with the Fox or Ghost Devil, these two Devils ask for the appropriate price before allowing theircontractee to use their abilities. As with the Octopus Devil, it will enable Yoshida to freely use its abilities, as he is seen chatting with Kishibe while the Octopus Devil battles the remaining Dolls created by Santa Claus. To use the Octopus Devil’s abilities on this large scale, it’s unclear what deal Yoshida made with it.
Octopus, Mouth, Snow, and Bitterness Erased
After Denji turns into the actual Chainsaw Devil, Pochita, after witnessingNayuta’s dismembered headon the sushi conveyor belt, Pochita begins devouring the Devils he comes into contact with. As Yoshida works for the Public Safety Devil Hunters, he is also tasked to retrain Pochita using the Octopus Devil. Unfortunately, this does not fare well for him and the Octopus Devil, as in Chapter 174,Pochita erased the Octopus, Mouth, Snow, and Bitterness Devils.
How did the Octopus Devil make its return?
After Denji came to his senses, he asked Pochita to make him barf up a Devil that would get him out of his situation
As mentioned above, Pochita devoured and erased the Octopus Devil during his rampage. However,Denji, Asa, and Yoruhave found their way into the Aging Devils world since then. Previously, the Aging Devil had been commissioned by the Publis Safety Devil Hunters to subdue Pochita. However, this comes at a horrific price.
The Aging Deviloffers a deal to the Public Safety Devil Hunters, agreeing to be consumed and erased by Pochita in return for 10,000 children who hold Japanese citizenship and are between infancy and nine years old to be killed in front of mirrors. Without a second thought, former Minister of Finance Tadashi Hasegawa accepted these conditions and allocated extra resources to secure the children within that age range.
Soonafter the terms were agreed upon, Yoru attacked the Aging Devil, transporting their minds into the Aging Devil world. In this world, individuals do not need food or water as they slowly turn into trees. Only when the tree rots away do their minds and bodies fully become one with nature, and thus, the individual can return to their actual body in the real world. With no means of escape, Denji and Asa quickly argue until Pochita forces Denji to barf up the Snow and Bitterness Devils.
This was their first hint of escape asDenji realized Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil’s stomach, was still in the real world. After Denji realizes he can eat the humans that have turned into trees, he soon makes himself hungry while Asa creates a makeshift ax to cut into the trees, revealing the innards of the humans that have been imprisoned. While this works as Denji feeds on the intestines, pulling the chain on his heart to revive Pochita in the real world, it’s still insufficient to get them out of their situation.

Thanks to Denji’s quick thinking, Pochita then barfs up Yoshida, the contractee of the Octopus Devil, thus unerasing him. All the Devils Pochita has eaten within this timespan have returned from being erased. Pochita forcing Denji to barf up Yoshida, who’s currently contracted with the Octopus Devil, may have been the best idea, as Yoshida has shown agreat depth of knowledge of Devils. Although it hasn’t been that long since Yoshida and the Octopus Devil have returned, he quickly understands the situation, coming up with a plan to show his hand into Denji’s mouth, which is connected to Pochita’s stomach in the real world.
With this, Yoshida uses the Octopus Devil to make a connection to the real world; however, he quickly gets intercepted, and so does Yoru by the Aging Devil. As mentioned above, Yoshida can substitute other people’s body parts for his own in exchange for using more of the Octopus Devil’s powers. In this instance, he uses Fumiko Mifune’s heart to summon the Octopus Devil and attack the Aging Devil.
