Ahead of the game’s market debut, publisher 2K has taken to Twitter to announce thatCivilization 7hasearned the Steam Deck Verified label. The upcoming title will hence be fully compatible with Valve’s handheld, offering comprehensive support for its controls and native resolution.

Civilization 7 Is the Series' First-Ever Steam Deck Verified Game

The upcoming game is the first-ever entry in theCivilizationseriesto have earned the Steam Deck Verified badge. Its immediate predecessor,Civilization 6, is still rated as “Playable” on Valve’s handheld, but missed out on the Verified badge due to issues like occasionally displaying non-Steam-Deck controller icons and requiring text input via the on-screen keyboard. Small text that’s difficult to read on the handheld’s 7.4-inch screen is another issue that theCivilization 6Steam page cites among the reasons for the game not having the Steam Deck Verified badge. Despite these shortcomings,Civilization 6’s overall compatibility with the device is fairly decent, especially considering that the game predates the Steam Deck by five and a half years.

Steam Deck Won’t Be the Only Way to Play Civilization 7 on the Go

Aside from supporting the device’s controls and native resolution, games aiming for the Steam Deck Verified badge also need to reach a certain performance threshold on the handheld. The fact that Firaxis managed to getCivilization 7running well on Valve’s portable device isn’t particularly surprising, not least because the game was already confirmed to be coming to the Switch, asignificantly less powerful platform than the Steam Deck. Valve’s handheld also easily surpassesCivilization 7’s minimum system requirements, which include 8GB of RAM, a GTX 1050 or RX 460, and i5-4690 or Ryzen 3 1200—or equivalent hardware.

Apart from PC and the Nintendo Switch,Civilization 7is also coming to the latest two generations of Xbox and PlayStation consoles. On that note, the game is poised to break a major series tradition by being the first entry in the franchise to have a day-one release on both PC and consoles. All prior installments were either PC exclusives or only expanded their reaches to other platforms post-release.
