Summary

After a successful first season,Creature Commandoshas already been renewed for a second season on Max. The first project of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe featured a plethora of lesser-known monster characters going on a special mission as a team, with room for more in the future.

DC has many monster heroes, villains, and anti-heroes, with several having the skills and characteristics to join a team like the Creature Commandos. Some are actual commandos from the comics who were absent from the first season and others fit the criteria of joining Task Force M while expanding the new DCU lexicon.

9Orca

An Aquatic Villain That Fits James Gunn’s Love For Obscure Characters

James Gunn has an affinity for the strange and obscure characters in his superhero projects andOrcawould suit that. With Nina Mazursky no longer a part of the Creature Commandos, the team might need a new aquatic member to get through the waters of whatever location they are infiltrating.

Grace Balin is the classic monster villain trope of a scientist experimenting on herself, transforming her into a hybrid creature. In this case, she was a marine biologist using orca whale spinal tissue to remedy her own spine, and it transformed her into the anthropomorphic Orca with enhanced strength and the ferocity of the sea animal.

8Parasite

Considered One Of Superman’s Scariest Villains For A Reason

Parasiteis one of Superman’s most notorious villains due to his ability to absorb the life essence of anyone or anything he touches. He’s a monster that cannot be trusted as his lust for power almost always results in him going overboard, mutating into an even more twisted version of himself, especially if he absorbs the essence and power of other metahumans.

With James Gunn’s Superman focusing on an already established take on the character,Creature Commandoscould help expand on his mythology. The first season introducedfantastical Batman villainssuch as Doctor Phosphorus and Clayface along with the famous Wonder Woman villain: Circe. Season 2 could do the same for Superman by having an overlooked villain like Parasite.

7Solomon Grundy

Frankenstein Would Either Love Or Hate Grundy

The first season ofCreature Commandosmade it clear that Eric Frankenstein cannot be trusted. However, Amanda Waller would likely want to have a monster like that for the team andSolomon Grundywould be ideal as an immortal zombie with less-than-average intelligence. He would be the perfect tank to have in Waller’s pocket, especially against another metahuman threat.

Introducing Solomon Grundy in Season 2 could lead to an epic battle between himand the famous Frankenstein monster. This showdown of two undead brutes could form the plot of an entire episode, allowing the viewers to guess who will come out on top.

6Man-Bat

He Has The Potential To Be DC’s Answer To The Hulk

Another case of a scientist turning himself into a monster,Man-Bat,is a terrifying foe of Batmanwho tried to cure deafness with vampire bat DNA and transformed into a feral beast. Where most of the Creature Commandos are cognitive, Man-Bat is just an animal operating on instincts, which could make him a wild card for the team.

On the one hand, Man-Bat can transform back into Dr. Kirk Langstrom and the human side of him could be beneficial to helping the team, depending on the mission. On the other hand, thanks to the ability to fly, enhanced strength, and agility of the Man-Bat, Kirk could be the ultimate weapon if he transforms in the middle of a fight to aim his darker side in the same vein as Marvel’s Hulk.

5King Shark

Fans Would Love To See Nanaue As Part Of A Team Again

The finale of Season 1 confirms thatKing Shark, AKA Nanaue, will be part of the new DC Universe, having transitionedfrom the DC Extended Universe. He has already demonstrated his strength as a member of Task Force X, being the son of a shark god. Additionally, King Shark is a fan-favorite character inThe Suicide Squaddue to his childlike personality and his desire to make friends.

The term “monster” is subjective when it comes to the Creature Commandos because characters like Nina Mazursky and Weasel were not evil beings in the slightest. King Shark would continue to play into the theme that some humans are worse monsters than the creatures. As a bonus, some fans would likely enjoy having Sylvester Stallone reprise the role.

4Khalis

There’s Always Room For A Mummy

Khalis is another character seen only as a cameo in the Season 1 finale, potentially teasing the next season. He is a mummified healer resurrected to serve alongside the other monsters in Creature Commandos comics, which already makes him an ideal replacement for Nina.

The only detail about Khalis shown in the episode is that he has a knack for knitting. The cameo of Khalis does not guarantee that he will be joining the team. However, fans would appreciate seeing more members of the team from the comic join the show.

3Medusa

The Second Medusa Is Not A Gorgon

Medusa is one of the original Creature Commandos when the team first hit the scene and, despite her codename, she is not themythical being from Greek mythologywhom Wonder Woman fights. Instead, this Medusa is Myrra Rhodes, a military doctor who accidentally became exposed to chemicals, thus mutating her hair into snakes.

Myrra joined the Creature Commandos as Medusa, showcasing her skills in combat and weaponry without relying on her special abilities like enhanced senses, using her snakes to inject venom and regeneration. With how brutal and violent the show gets, the team could benefit from a medic to ensure their safety on and off the battlefield in Season 2.

2The Werewolf

The Duality Of A Werewolf Is Always Compelling

In the first season ofCreature Commandos, viewers got to see a fair mix of classic and new members of the titular anti-hero team. Warren Griffith,The Werewolf, was noticeably missing, despite the team featuring many classical monsters such as Eric Frankenstein, the Bride, and Nina Mazursky.

The Werewolf is different fromtypical lycanthropes seen in gamesand movies, only instead of a supernatural curse, he is the result of a World War 2 experiment on a wounded soldier. That kind of backstory would fit right into the style of James Gunn’s series, which has an emphasis on giving characters' histories via flashbacks throughout an episode.

1The Vampire

It’s Not A Proper Monster Mash Without A Vampire

The DC Universe has zombies, aliens, robots, and various other paranormal beings, but vampires like Vincent Velcoro are a rarity, with Man-Bat just barely qualifying. Also known asThe Vampireor Leech, Vincent Velcoro is a military convict who volunteered to be experimented on during World War 2 but did not expect to become a vampire.

Rather than justbloodsucking and slashing like a typical vampire, The Vampire mixes his typical vampiric abilities with his skills as a soldier. He is an expert marksman, able to use any weapon given to him. Even without a firearm, Vincent is a capable fighter, which could make him on par with the Bride as a skilled agent rather than a monster of brute force.
