Shortly after its impresiveSilent Hill 2remake, Bloober Team announcedCronos: The New Dawn. As the developer’s original IP,Cronos: The New Dawnblends survival horror with time travel, making it one of the most intriguing horror games slated for this year. The announcement trailer promises a tense atmosphere that appears to be inspired by the studio’s work onSilent Hill 2. Another clear influence, though, is theDead Spacefranchise.
The over-the-shoulder third-person perspective and the grotesque monsters showcased are reminiscent of the beloved sci-fi horror series. After theDead Spaceremake in 2023, interest in the franchise has been reignited. Unfortunately, it seems as thoughEA won’t be bringing moreDead Spaceremakes to life, at least for now. This is one of the many things that makesCronos: The New Dawnso compelling; it may not be an officialDead Spaceproject, but its similarities could be just what fans are looking for. However, Bloober Team’s mind-bending project may be lacking one keyDead Spacefeature: zero gravity mechanics.

Because of its setting,Dead Spacefeatures segments that require players to float around due to the loss of gravity, which makes for challenging moments of gameplay. Zero gravity sections inDead Spacearen’t always easy, but when players begin to master the controls, it really kicks the experience up a notch. These mechanics play a major role inDead Space, and whileCronos: The New Dawnappears to have a sci-fi influence, it doesn’t seem to feature any location that would justify zero gravity.
While there have only been a few details revealed aboutCronos: The New Dawn, the sci-fi elements shown are time-travel-related instead of space-centric. Of course, updates in the future may show some kind of space-focused location, but it doesn’t seem likely. Despite being influenced by the franchise,Cronos: The New Dawnwill want to set itself apart fromDead Space, and also exploring space in some capacity risks keeping the story from being unique.

Everything Confirmed About Cronos: The New Dawn, So Far
It’s a fascinating concept, but for those hoping for a game that has a take on all ofDead Space’s features,Cronos: The New Dawnmay be lacking in that department. On the bright side,Cronos: The New Dawnmay nail itsDead Spacesimilarities where it truly counts. The first trailer is short, but it’s also terrifying. If Bloober Team’s survival horror game can pull off the same intensity thatDead Spacedoes so well, then the lack of zero gravity shouldn’t be too big of a problem.TheSilent Hill 2remakeproved that Bloober Team can really bring some sweat-inducing moments to life, which makesCronos: The New Dawneven more intriguing.
Cronos: The New Dawn Has Serious Competition Ahead
This year is stacked with releases, and2025 has plenty of horror titles scheduled for launch.Cronos: The New Dawnmay be one of the most notable horror games slated, but outside its own genre, the likes ofGTA 6,Ghost of Yotei, and many others wait in the wings, too.

It will be exciting to see howan intense horror story likeCronos: The New Dawnstacks up against the competition. It will be tough, but thanks to the good will of theSilent Hill 2remake, a lot of gamers could have their sights set onCronos: The New Dawnwhen a release date is announced.
