Megacorps are diabolical in their acts against humanity in service of monetary gain and power, and there’s a good reason why Johnny Silverhand hates them enough that he’s willing toburn Night City to the ground.
With so many corporations, only some can be deemed as the most evil out there, and as Night City is constantly ravished by hands both old and new that seek to carve out their own corporate greed, it’s a good time to look at the corporations that players should be most cautious off when they venture to Night City inCyberpunk 2077.
5Night Corp
A Corporation Who Wants to Better Night City, at the Control of its Employees
Despite having a mandatory workweek of 80 hours, Night Corp somehow becomes the less evil of the 5 mega corps inCyberpunk 2077, albeit, not by much. Night Corp is a Night City-based corp that focuses on home products, and the betterment of the city that its very founder Richard Night, was CEO of. Night Corp might seem rather nice on the surface, funding Jefferson Peralez’s education to supporthope for a better Night City, but at the end of the day, that’s exactly it – just what’s on the surface.
Not much is known about Night Corp and the shady actions that they commit to behind the scenes could be far worse than what is already known about them. Secrets are revealed with their use of AI on lower employees that created cyberpsychos and potential corporate conditioning, but considering so little is still known, Night Corp’s goal ofmaking Night City a paradisecould come at the cost of the very citizens who want to help.
4Biotechnica
A Corp Focused on Securing Humanity’s Future By Using “Lesser” Citizens as Test Subjects
On the surface, Biotechnica might seem like the most gentle of corporations that only seeks topreserve humanityby providing them with the chemicals and growth that they need to survive in a dystopian and polluted society. Biotechnica doesn’t have the same military might as Militech and Arasaka, and their funds mainly go towards using CHOOH2 and supplying Bioware like synthetic grains, cloning plants, and more.
Yet, Biotechnica doesn’t exactly do all of this out of the kindness of their hearts. Biotechnica’s rise to power comes from their monopoly over the fuel crisis, and how they further their gains through human experiments on those they deem as cockroaches, like mentally ill patients and even Nomads. Biotechnica are monsters in their experiments on humans, and their genetic modifications are entirely unethical, much like how their food resources are more than likely humans themselves – forcing humans to evolve into unknowing cannibals that will be assassinated if they find out. (It’s also worth mentioning that employees get a generous six paid vacation days a year).
3Militech
An American Arms Giant That Provides Employees With 50% Discounts to Militech Weapons
Militech is an American enterprise dedicated to getting richer with each passing day and expanding its military desires with new employees and new weapons. While they are American-founded and American-based, they aren’t exactly for the American people, and they mainly just want to line their own pockets. A 50% discount isn’tgoing to stop Militechfrom getting what it wants, whether from its own employees or people with valuable information that will see employees rise to more power in the company itself.
Militech is at constant odds with Arasaka, and the two seem to be constantly at odds to start yet another corporate war that will further diminish the future of humanity. Militech doesn’t care about its soldiers, nor its people – Hell, they even gave Johnny Silverhand the nuke he needed to blow up Arasaka. Militech is as shady as the rest of the corps, and this evil corp does not care about its own veterans, and will happily have its employees committing war crimes and leave them out for PTSD and death.
2Kang Tao
China’s Largest Tech and Arms Manufacturer
When one looks to apply to Kang Tao, one might see the benefit of a Gold Membership for Trauma Team quite the advantage for working with this corp. Yet, that is until victims in need of a job and security realize that to get this benefit, they must actually sign a 50-year loyalty pledge, forcing them into a lifetime of servitude just for a job that they are not respected for, and not even a Platinum membership for Trauma Team, meaning they are still pretty uncovered.
Kang Tao themselves are truly evil in how they just do not care about their employees, and how those that find out more than they should, will bekilled by a small striketeam. Kang Tao holds no loyalty to its employees, whether they are mere foot soldiers or secret operatives. The dedication to these employers will get players nothing but a bullet for the slightest mess up.
1Arasaka
Corporate Security, Banking, Manufacturing – Set on Taking Over the World
The most well-known, and arguably the most hated of the megacorps is Arasaka, the corp that Johnny Silverhand spends most of his attention on. Arasaka is the epitome of evil, and they attempt to cover up their misdeeds with a league of assassins and mercenaries to silence anyone who would dare speak out about them. Yet, they are responsible for so much pain in the world that it’s more often than not that they simply don’t care how they are perceived because everyone is dependent on them for economic stability.
Arasaka has a wealth ofmilitaristic implantsand soldiers at their command, and their domination of Japan, Europe, and even America has made them the greatest corporation above all thanks to their security firms and investments in banking. Where Arasaka is truly evil is not just in their habit of killing others below them but in their monopoly. Arasaka buys up companies and land and is basically out to rob humanity and the Earth of its very souls.
