Summary

The Final Shape expansion has marked the tenth year of storytelling forDestinyas a franchise, andDestiny 2had a couple of months to thrive on Bungie’s efforts with the new campaign and content. WhileDestiny 2has a lot to prove now, and Bungie too by extension, the game is about to launch its third Episode soon, and a bunch of good changes alongside it. Recently, Bungie has been more active on social media as part of the release of the new Past is Prologue event and the upcoming launch of Heresy, and the company seems to have moved away from one iconic enemy based on recent comments.

Episode Heresy will include a newDestiny 2Dungeon, but with the transition from seasons to Episodes, a returning Raid has been lost in the shuffle. There are not manyRaids left to reprise forDestiny 2, and the most rumored and popular are often a combination of the Leviathan Raids, Scourge of the Past, or Wrath of the Machine. The latter is often brought up by fans to see if Bungie has any plans to reprise it, and based on a recent AMA session on Twitter, it seems SIVA may never come back.

Why Destiny 2 May Never Reprise SIVA and Wrath of the Machine

The community-loved CM by the name of dmg04 took to Twitter recently to hold an AMA session, where fans of the game asked a lot of questions - not necessarily related toDestiny 2. To a question regarding whetherWrath of the Machine will come back, dmg04 replied that this doesn’t seem likely at the moment, as Bungie is focusing on new things. Considering past comments from Bungie developers saying that it would be too big of an ask to use a lot of resources to remake Wrath of the Machine from the ground up just to have SIVA-related assets end up on the back burner.

This comment alone made it seem likeSIVA and Wrath of the Machinewere not likely returning toDestiny 2at all, let alone in the short term. However, the recent AMA session ending up with a comment about how Bungie is focusing on new things seems like the final nail in the coffin for SIVA and the popularD1Raid, no matter how much fans may want it back. This can be sad, but at the same time, it makes sense for Bungie not to spread its resources and energy too thin on projects that wouldn’t do the game any good in the long run.

Sure, SIVA is very popular, and one could argue that remaking assets for the AI to return in Wrath of the Machine would then pave the way for the character’s permanent return in the near future. This is true to an extent, but it may also be that Bungie has no desire tobring SIVA back toDestiny 2’s storyline and Frontiers expansion later this year, or even further ahead in the future. This seems to be the company’s position at the moment, and unless that changes, it may be time to accept that SIVA won’t return.

Why Destiny 2 May Be Better Off Without SIVA and Wrath of the Machine

There is a lot of potential in SIVA’s story, especially with the way the AI was used by Rasputin against the Iron Lords inD1, only for it to be later unearthed by Fallen Splicers inRise of Iron. IfDestiny 2’s Frontiers is taking players out of the Solar System, however, there would be little use for a Golden Age AI that is mainly tied to the first game’s story. SIVA not returning is not necessarily bad, as it means there can be more newDestiny 2content as opposed to reprised content, which is likely the better option given the current state of the game.Destiny 2can’t live on nostalgia alone, and it may be time to say goodbye to Wrath of the Machine and SIVA, as well as the idea of seeing them remade in modern graphics.
