Summary
Destiny 2Episode Heresy has finally launched and, alongside the newest content, Bungie also released a massive new update, making substantial changes to the experience. Following the up and down experience of Episode Revenant,Destiny 2fans are hopeful that the final narrative arc of this content will be the strongest of the trio before Codename Frontiers arrives in the summer.
However, things got off to a less than ideal start as theDestiny 2weekly resetwas marred by issues resulting in server disconnects and lost progress for many. While the reset took a bit longer than normal, fans were able to finally log in a few hours later to experience the start of Episode Heresy, which saw the mysterious return of the Dreadnaught as well as a surprising narrative moment that many probably didn’t see coming. Alongside the new content, fans are also likely getting used to all the new changes thanks to a massive new update.
Part of the reason why the weekly reset took a bit longer than normal is due to Update 8.2, which Bungie has been slowly teasing over the past few weeks. The update makes sweeping changes to certain activities, including makingDestiny 2’s Trials of Osiris mode more accessiblein an attempt to grow its current player base. In addition to new rewards and armor, players can more easily reach the Lighthouse, no longer having to win 7 straight games, though win streaks will grant higher tier rewards.
As expected, exotic armor and weapons have also been adjusted for Episode Heresy, including providing some much-needed buffs to some underused gear like Gwisin Vest, Khepri’s Horn, Stormdancer’s Brace and more. In an interesting twist,Destiny 2’s heavy exotic sniper rifle D.A.R.C.I.was given a unique perk which gives it a similarity to Gjallarhorn in that it will empower other players sniper rifles.
With more time to get used to these gameplay changes, players may be able to develop new strategies for tackling the Episode Heresy activity known as The Nether. The rogue-lite style experience removes most traditional ways to heal, adding a new challenge for players who are looking to acquire the newHeretical Arsenal inDestiny 2. The weapons can come with unique visuals and fragile mods to make them even more powerful.
