Ncuti Gatwa debuted as the Fifteenth Doctor inDoctor WhoSeason 14. He made his first appearance in the 60th anniversary special,The Giggle. The said episode featured how he split from his predecessor, the Fourteenth Doctor, portrayed by David Tennant. His first full season as the Fifteenth Doctor premiered on July 27, 2025, and it was well-received due to his energetic and charismatic take on the Time Lord. The audience was drawn to his natural charm and magnetic appeal. A new report shared new details about the production ofDoctor WhoSeason 15, which is also referred to asDoctor WhoSeason 2 since it is the franchise’s second season on Disney Plus.
Doctor Whohas four writers on board in the new season —Pete McTighe, Juno Dawson, Inua Ellams, and Sharma Angel-Walfall, per Radio Times. McTighe and Dawson have been involved in the franchise. McTighe previously wrote theKerblamandPraxeusepisodes. On the other hand, Dawson created the first officialDoctor Whoscripted podcast. Both were excited to return to the franchise. “It’s been a joy to step back inside, withRussell [T Davies]at the console and the incredible team at Bad Wolf hanging on for dear life,” McTighe said. “I love this show with all my heart, and am really proud of what we’ve been able to achieve with my next episode.” Dawson said it was a “dream come true” to be part of the next season, so she couldn’t wait for the new audience to watch it.
On the other hand, Ellams, a Nigerian poet and playwright, is making his scriptwriting debut in the franchise, and he is thrilled about the job. Ellams has been a fan of the franchise since he was 10, so it was a huge break for him to be part of it. “Getting to write for the show felt like touching God; it was blasphemously humbling and exciting, and I can’t wait to share my story with the world,” Ellams said. Angel-Walfall is also writing an episode and just like the other writers, she is thrilled to write an episode forDoctor Who. “I am a massive Russell T Davies fan, so it is a dream come true to be able to work alongside him, especially on a show that I love,” Angel-Walfall said. “It’s a real privilege to be a part of theDoctor Whofamily. I have loved every minute!” Russell T Davies was proud of the writers' work and said he couldn’t “wait to unleash their brilliant work.”
Much is expected from Gatwa’sDoctor WhoSeason 2. However, there were also some concerns. Davies previously said that the next season would employ thebreaking-the-fourth-wall techniqueand have more music. Some fans were not thrilled as they felt that Davies was turning it into a musical show. Davies also teasedthe “scariest” episodeof the upcoming season. According to him, his sister was “on the edge of her seat” when he showed it to her. However, the filmmaker said that the star of the episode was not Gatwa but Rose Ayling-Ellis, an English actress who has been deaf since birth.
