Epic Games Offers Respite to Developers
In addition to making the platform more appealing to gamers,Epic is also trying to encourage developersand help them work around existing fees. Epic is offering a 88/12 revenue share for payments processed, 0% on third party payments, and a royalty reduction from 5% to 3.5% for Unreal Engine games published on Epic Games prior to or at the same time as their launch on other services. Epic is also offering to cover Apple’s Core Technology Fee, which charges €0.50 per download on apps that have passed one million downloads. Epic says that in addition to Apple and Google’s “scare screens,” the Apple fee is preventing many developers from even trying to launch games on the service, and this may help to overcome that.
