Summary
Dynasty Warriors: Originsplays things a bit differently from past entries which may be obvious since “Origins” is in the title. Instead of controlling dozens of characters each with their own unique weapons and abilities, players will go through a journey as one hero simply known as The Wanderer.
That said, there are alsoswappable heroes on some missions inDynasty Warriors: Origins. As The Wanderer, players can find a distinct number of weapon types in the game including swords, chakrams, spears, and more. While each has its strengths, some weapon types soar far above others. Let’s rank them all in this breakdown in terms of how easy and effective they are to use in battle.

10Halberd
A Post-Game Treat
The halberd is a secret tenth weapon that can only be obtained after players finish the game at least once. InDynasty Warriors: Origins, players have to align with one of three kingdoms but which one they choose doesn’t matter as players can get the halberd no matter what.
It’s a potent weapon, especially in the hands of Lu Bu. However, it’s not very fast and because it’s a post-game weapon, players aren’t going to be able to enjoy it for as long as the other weapon types in the game making it less worthwhile overall.

9Lance
A Good Weapon For Horse Combat
There are frankly too many polearms in the game and of the many, the lance is the weakest one. It has one great use and that’s forhorse combat inDynasty Warriors: Origins. The lance is a great charging tool to make short work of enemies as players ride through levels, knocking foes over on the way to their destination.
Horse combat is a bit awkward compared to ground combat, so it’s never advised to stay on a steed for that long. The only character who seems to wield the lance well is Zhang Fei and using him as a temporary party member is fun enough.

8Spear
Get The Point?
The spear is a harder weapon to use compared to the starting sword. It has the advantage of range as it can lunge toward enemies. It can also be twirled around to dispatch encroaching hoards of enemies at any given time like a one-man tornado.
While it looks cool to wield in moments and again, there are great cases to use spears in battle, the overall speed makes it less appealing to equip than other weapons inDynasty Warriors: Origins.

7Twin Pikes
Two Doesn’t Always Mean Better
Twin Pikes are slightly faster than wielding just a standard spear. They are like a combination of spears and axes rolled into one. They have a good range as they are long weapons and their strength varies upon loot drops but generally, they are one of the strongest in the game.
However, there’s a bit of awkwardness to wielding them like they would be better if players could just equip one at a time. Still, compared to other polearms, they are more fun to use in battle as long as players practice with them a bit.

6Podao
An Earthshaking Weapon
The podao is like the Chinese equivalent of this game toa greatsword in an RPG likeThe Elder Scrolls. Podaos are slow, two-handed blades that are incredibly powerful. They can create earthquakes with a single strike, so their power cannot be denied.
There’s even a cool attack that can light the ground on fire which is quite effective against enemy groups. Players will have to decide if they like power over speed when equipping a podao inDynasty Warriors: Origins.

5Crescent Blade
Building Momentum
The crescent blade is the best polearm in the game even though it’s not the best weapon overall. It’s heavy, giving it a lot of attack power behind every blow with the downside being its slow build. However, the slowness is part of the trick to wielding the crescent blade well.
It’s all about building momentum between forward lunging combos or twirling the weapon above the hero’s head to create a torrent of slashes. For one of the best demonstrations of how powerful this weapon can get, players should test out Guan Yu in a level.

4Sword
Extending Your Body With Blade
The sword is the first weapon players will get as The Wanderer isa skilled swordsmanby trade. The way he handles the blade is like watching performance art. Swords in Chinese culture are often depicted as extensions of the body more so than instruments of pain like in this game along with cultural touchstone movies includingCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
That’s why it feels so good to use the sword and mow down thousands of enemy troops.

3Gauntlets
Become The Ultimate Warrior Monk
Gauntlets are easily one of the best weapons in the game that will make any player feel likea warrior monk. While players will equip literal gauntlets or claws with this weapon type, it’s basically an unarmed form of combat.
Players will pummel enemies with swift strikes and even some kicks depending on the Battle Arts used. Skilled players can easily make The Wanderer look like some lost legendary Kung Fu master with gauntlets and the only real disadvantage is a lack of range with them equipped.

2Wheels
Two Discs Of Doom
Wheels are often referred to as chakrams in other games likeKingdom Hearts 2where the villain Axeluses them. No matter what they are called in a game, they are two circular discs that players can dual-wield inDynasty Warriors: Origins.
They are one of the few ranged weapons in the game as they begin with close strikes and are followed up by long-ranged throws. There are combos and Battle Arts that can even form rings around the player to make them look like a walking aura of destruction. While not the strongest physically, Wheels are incredibly useful for crowd control.

1Staff
Power Pole Extend!
A staff inDynasty Warriors: Originscan be likened toGoku’s Power Pole in theDragon Ballanime. While it is just an oversized stick, it looks like it enlarges itself with extreme combos. Like the gauntlets, speed is what makes the staff so effective in battle but it has range and power which is why it’s slightly above gauntlets and wheels.
Sometimes it can be easy to get knocked out of a combo if an enemy somehow slips into a weak spot. That’s the only big disadvantage of a staff which is a blast to play with.
