Summary
Nintendohas released a new update for its battle royale racing gameF-Zero 99, addressing various issues related to tracks, pilot cards, events, and more.Nintendorolled out the update on February 4, and players can already download and install it.
F-Zero 99takes the first entry of one of thebest racing video game franchisesand transforms it into an online battle royale racing experience. The online title effectively pays tribute to the original SNESF-Zero, which launched alongside the console in 1991 and introduced a new kind of frenetic experience to video games in the past century. The originalF-Zeronot only set a new standard for racing games but also paved the way for the creation of Nintendo’s most popular racing series,Mario Kart. In this new installment,F-Zero 99pits 99 players against each other in high-stakes, fast-paced races where only a handful manage to complete all the laps, as most machines end up being destroyed.

FollowingF-Zero 99’s surprising October 2024 update, Nintendo is now rectifying a host of issues to improve the experience for fans.Patch 1.5.6addresses a problem where players were mistakenly considered to have finished the race if their machine went off course and crashed near the finish line in Mute City 2, White Land 2, Mirror White Land 2, Mirror Mute City 3, and Death Wind + White Land Secret Track. Additionally, these tracks were affected by a glitch that allowed players to skip laps by going off course near the finish line and then using Super Boost before landing, which this update has now fixed.
Another issue affectingF-Zero 99’s battle royale experiencewas related to pilot cards, as they were not displaying the correct number of wins. Nintendo identified this as purely a display issue, meaning the actual number of wins was safely recorded for players. After patch 1.5.6, they should now be properly shown on screen. Moreover, the update addressed a bug in the Fire Stingray vehicle that caused it to disappear if players equipped the decal from the Mirror Queen League, used the machine color unlocked by racing in 10F-Zero 99races, or pressed the L button while racing.
The patch also includes a fix for a problem that caused weekend events to continue past their scheduled duration, along with many other minor adjustments aimed at providing a more “pleasant gaming experience.” Even though the originalF-Zerobelongs tothe list of forgotten SNES games,F-Zero 99has successfully revived the classic experience with a modern twist, making it a worthwhile experience for fans of the franchise.
