The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) Alliance Raid challenge was introduced on December 24, one week afterthe launch ofFinal Fantasy 14Patch 7.15. This new battle pits up to 24 players against the final boss ofA Realm Reborn’s World of Darkness alliance raid, The Cloud of Darkness. The latest raid challenge also adds some mechanics fromShadowbringers' Eden raid series, which saw players face another version of The Cloud of Darkness.Final Fantasy 14parties who clear the Chaotic Alliance Raid are rewarded with Clouddark Demimateria 1 and Clouddark Demimateria 2, with bonus amounts of the latter Demimateria dropping based on the number of first-time clears in the raid.
However,Final Fantasy 14confirmed that changes to the Chaotic Alliance Raid reward structure are arriving soon. According to a social media post from Square Enix, excess amounts of Clouddark Demimateria 1 can be exchanged for Clouddark Demimateria 2 starting in Patch 7.16, which will go live on Tuesday, January 21, following a brief server maintenance period. While Square Enix did not state what the exchange rate of Clouddark Demimateria 1 to 2 would be, the change will allow more players topurchase the A Half Times Two hairstyleand the Dais of Darkness mount, both of which require 49 and 75 Clouddark Demimateria 2 respectively.

Both the mount and the hairstyle can also be bought and sold on the market board, so the prices of both items will likely change once Patch 7.16 goes live. Square Enix said that the changes to the Clouddark Demimateria system were made based on player feedback, and stated that further changes could come in later updates. Patch 7.16 will beFinal Fantasy 14’s first content update in 2025, with theDawntrailRole Quest series finale being its main feature.
Major Job balance updates are unlikely to arrive in Patch 7.16, so players mustwait until Patch 7.2to see what changes Square Enix will make. With more raid content planned throughout 2025, it remains to be seen howFinal Fantasy 14player feedback will affect them.
