Sony’s apparent evasion of aBloodborneremaster is baffling, but PlayStation’s former Head of Indies, Shuhei Yoshida, recently proposed a theory that may justify it. Thebeloved PlayStation executive has departed Sonyafter 31 years of service, and recently sat down with Kinda Funny Games to discuss his future plans. During the interview, Yoshida brought up the constant fan requests for aBloodborneremaster, and offered a “personal theory” explaining why it hasn’t happened yet. According to Yoshida, FromSoftware president andBloodbornedirector Hidetaka Miyazaki “really” loves the game and is interested in revisiting it.

However, Yoshida reckons that Miyazaki’s busy schedule has yet to afford him the opportunity to think aboutBloodborne, and that the FromSoftware boss “doesn’t want anyone else to touch it.” Therefore, the PlayStation team could simply be respecting Miyazaki’s wish and is holding off on doing anything withBloodborneuntil the FromSoftware boss is a bit more freed up. While Yoshida’s theory is definitely viable, Miyazaki’s past comments on theBloodbornesituation allude to Sony having the upper hand. WhenMiyazaki was asked about the potential for aBloodborneremakelast year, he expressed gratitude for the community’s passion but strongly implied that he was not at liberty to greenlight the project by himself.
It’s no secret thatSony owns theBloodborneIPand calls the shots regarding its future, which was most likely what Miyazaki was referring to. As a result, aBloodborneremaster can seemingly happen only if FromSoftware and Sony team up again. Unfortunately, it appears all too likely that this potential collaboration won’t happen for a while, which meansBloodborne’s 10th anniversary might just slip by with a whisper instead of a bang.
