Summary
A recent leak from a reliable source in theGenshin Impactcommunity has revealed that Iansan, a 4-Star Polearm, and Varesa, a 5-Star Catalyst, will make their playable debut in Version 5.5. While there has been much speculation about the rarity of Iansan, all the signs pointed towards her being a 4-Star character inGenshin Impact. Expectations were high for Iansan since her first appearance in 2020, and while she had time to shine during the Interlude in Version 5.2, players were hoping that they would get to see more of her character after the Archon Quest.
Version 5.5 is set to introduce the Collective of Plenty, and as such,Genshin Impactplayers will now have access to all six Saurian forms. They will be able to obtain the ability of the Tatankasaurus either via indwelling, or by having Varesa or Iansan in the party. While Varesa has yet to make an appearance, she was briefly teased by HoYoverse as anupcomingGenshin Impactcharacterduring the developer livestream for Version 5.3.

According to Uncle Teyvat, both Varesa and Iansan will join the playable cast ofGenshin Impactcharactersin Version 5.5. Varesa will be a 5-Star Catalyst, while Iansan will be a 4-Star Polearm. It should be noted that Uncle Teyvat did not explicitly state that Varesa was an Electro character, even though it is a logical assumption to make. Curiously, a previous leak mentioned Iansan being a 4-Star Electro Polearm as early as Version 5.0, and the Event Weapon for Version 5.4 being a Polearm hints at this too.
Genshin Impact: Version 5.5 New Characters
On the other hand, Varesa will be the fourth Catalyst in a row to make a debut, following up on Citlali, Lan Yan, andMizuki inGenshin Impact. While details on Varesa and Iansan’s ability kits aren’t available yet, there is an expectation that Version 5.5 will introduce two new Artifact Sets. It should be noted that the Great Volcano of Tollan won’t be the last Natlan map expansion, and that Mare Jivari is still intended to be released at a later date.
Given Iansan’s popularity amongGenshin Impactfans, many were disappointed to find out that she ended up being a 4-Star character in the end. While her ability kit can still be strong (as is the case withOroron inGenshin Impact), the community is confused why HoYoverse picked Varesa, an unknown character, to feature as the 5-Star character for the Collective of Plenty over Iansan. With beta testing on the horizon for Version 5.5,Genshin Impactplayers will soon get their answer.
