God of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla DLC is undoubtedly one of the best DLC experiences ever made on account of its ability to deliver both engaging gameplay and a compelling narrative that ties up the character arc of one of gaming’s most beloved characters, Kratos. One of the highlights of Valhalla’s gameplay are the boss fights against Tyr, who played a prominent role duringGod of War Ragnarok’s story but was ultimately undercut by the fact that his character was a fraud the entire time — merely Odin in disguise as he spied on Kratos and his friends. Now, he deserves a second chance in the spotlight in a futureGod of Wargame.
When it comes to Tyr, there is a wealth of untapped potential that almost begs for him to get more screen time in a futureGod of Wargame. It seemed as though players got to learn more about Tyr and even develop a relationship with him duringGod of War Ragnarok’s story, but once it was revealed that he was a fraud, all of that essentially went out the window, leaving room for another shot at it. If nothing else, as a god who values wisdom, justice, and peace above all else, Tyr offers an interesting viewpoint that, ironically, counters the violent histories of Kratos and Atreus. This is, of course, not to mention the compelling nature of his own story that is separate from the two protagonists, which is already primed and ready for an intriguing narrative.

God of War Ragnarok’s Real Tyr Wasn’t Even Revealed Until the Main Story Was Over
While it’s possible to see Tyr in his human form inGod of War Ragnarok, it’s only for a brief period during the game’s epilogue. On top of that, since Valhalla’s story largely centers around Kratos' character arc, there is little time for Tyr’s character to be further fleshed out, especially since every interaction with him during the DLC is an intense boss fight that leaves players with very little breathing room. This alone is enough of an argument to suggestTyr deserves more in the nextGod of Wargame, especially with his backstory being somewhat comparable to Kratos'.
Tyr Is One of the Most Important Characters in Kratos' Life
While Kratos is seen finally making peace with his past by the end ofGod of War Ragnarok’s Valhalla DLC, Tyr remains a parallel for Kratos' character, and is therefore one of the beloved protagonist’s most important allies. In a sense, Tyr represents the end of Kratos' journey, who has been gradually transformed over the last two games from a god of vengeance to a father striving for peace. For the next game to delve even more into Tyr’s backstory or his struggles with his choice to renounce violence could serve as a deeper reflection of what Kratos has gone through, thereby adding to the narrative.

The main issue with giving Tyr more screen time in a futureGod of Wargame is that theNorse saga for Kratoshas been wrapped up, and since Tyr is tied to Norse mythology, it might be difficult to integrate him into aGod of Wargame that is detached from it. That being said, ifGod of Warcan have a continuous story that spans mythologies, surely Tyr can find a foothold in the next game, regardless of what it is based on. At the very least, perhaps Tyr’s character could be explored more through flashbacks in the next game, perhaps showing him continuing his guidance of Kratos (or even Atreus) after the events of Valhalla.
