Summary
Grand Theft Auto 5has hit another incredible sales milestone, with a new report emerging from Take-Two Interactive regarding its success.GTA 5isn’t the only winner, asRed Dead Redemption 2has also seen a boost over the final months of 2024.
While mostGrand Theft Autofans are desperate to see and hear more regardingGTA 6, the current title is still experiencing tremendous success. In addition to the title’s heavily-praised single-player story mode, some of the draw is also likely due toGTA Online, which many players still regularly enjoy.

Now, in a Take-Two Interactiveannouncement, it’s come to light thatGTA 5has now reached a whopping 210 million copies sold over the course of its lifetime. While this number greatly surpasses even some of thebest-selling video games ever, the game is still showing remarkable growth this late into its lifespan. Take-Two indicates thatGrand Theft Auto 5sold 5 million copies in the final three months of the year, an average of more than 1.5 million copies per month. Many games would be considered a success to sell that many copies in their lifetime, let alone in such a short period of time, and so long after launching.
Although many fans have been disappointed by thelack of attentionRed Dead Redemption 2received post-launch, it doesn’t seem to stop players from trying it out. WhileRed Dead Redemption 2 salespale in comparison to those thatGTA 5has seen, it’s now reached an impressive 70 million copies sold. LikeGTA 5,Red Dead Redemption 2did quite well for itself in 2024, moving an additional three million copies in the quarter.Red Dead Redemption 2is six years old, and its online component is no longer receiving major content updates, so this number is nothing to scoff at.

While it remains to be seen ifGrand Theft Auto 6can live up to the hype that the series has built, it seems likely that it will achieve new sales records for Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive. At the moment, it seems thatGrand Theft Auto 6will launch in the autumn of 2025, which still leavesGTA 5quite a bit of time to rack up even more sales. WhileGTA 5will likely see at least somewhat of a drop-off in its sales after that point,Red Dead Redemption 2stands a good chance of continuing to be a strong seller for years.
