Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-has just dropped a new trailer.GQuuuuuuX(pronounced “G-Quacks”) is the latest installment in theGundamfranchise.
This new story is set in a colony in outer space, leading some to believe it is a “what if” scenario to the originalMobile Suit Gundam(also known asGundam 0079) series. WhileGundamnot setin the Universal Centurymight feature space colonies, they are not as common as in the UC. Rumors also suggest this series is somewhat based in0079.

Performance At Japanese Box Office
The film debuted in Japanese theaters on January 17 andearned 599 million yen (about 3.8 million dollars) during the weekend(January 17–19). It topped the Japanese box office, selling over 352,500 tickets.
The prologue features the first four episodes of the TV series, whose debut date on Japanese TV remains to be announced.
Release in North American Theaters
Gundamfansin North America will be able to watch the movie from Jun 06, 2025. GKIDShas acquired the cinema rights to the film in North America.
As Toho is distributing the movie in Japan, GKIDS, which has recently been acquired by Toho, probably had the upper hand in negotiations. But deciding to license the prologue to GKIDS might also suggest they have big plans for this series.
The story focuses on Amate Yuzuriha, who joins the illegal Clan Battles (with mobile suits) after meeting the war refugee Nyaan. Amate pilots the GQuuuuuuX and adopts the alias “Machu” in those battles. However, this puts both of them in more danger than they had initially predicted.
GQuuuuuuXis coproduced by Studio Khara (Rebuild of Evangelion).Kazuya Tsurumaki(The End of EvangelionandRebuild of Evangelion codirector) is in charge of the direction.Hideaki Anno(Evangelion) andYoji Enokido(Revolutionary Girl Utena, Sailor Moon SuperS, Ouran Host Club) are writing the scripts.
