Players on social media and in theElden Ringfan community are warning of hackers sending victims messages via Steam masquerading as invites to fakeNightreignplaytest. The invites include a link to a false Steam page that can compromise a player’s account. In truth, publisher Bandai Namco is managing the registration process for theElden Ring NightreignNetwork Tests entirely through its official website, and has not yet announced a Network Test for the PC version ofNightreign. The tests scheduled to kick off on Februrary 14, 2025 are exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S registrants.

Fake Elden Ring Nightreign Playtest Steam Invites Can Hack a Player’s Account

In posts on social media, user Nikoheart showed off screenshots of messages in the Steam interface that used officialElden Ring Nightreignbanners and art, but linked to suspicious pages that don’t match the format of Steam’s usual links. Victims of the scam reported that accessing the link caused their accounts to mass-message their friend list with similar links, blocking communication, and even compromising theirSteam Guard two-factor security.

Some who claimed to have been affected by the hack reported that they were able to get access back after contacting Steam support. Other players recalled similar hacking and scamming incidents on Steam centered around excitement about popular games, such as aSteam scam where developers renamed their games toHelldivers 2to trick buyers into thinking they were picking up the popular co-op shooter on sale.
