With several Warbonds available by now,Helldivers 2has a wide variety of primary weapons and support weapons for players to choose from, providing countless weapon combinations for viable loadouts. When it comes to secondary weapons inHelldivers 2, though, there aren’t many unique options. So, naturally,future updates forHelldivers 2have plenty of room to introduce distinct new secondary weapons.
Helldivers 2could expand its variety of secondary weapons by further exploring some of the existing weapon types and adding new Elemental damage types or similar utilities to these weapons. Additionally, introducing entirely new weapon types could help to account for some of the weaknesses of existing secondary weapons. Ultimately, givenHelldivers 2’s sci-fi setting, the sky is the limit for what kinds of new weaponry could be added to the game.
Helldivers 2: Secondary Weapon Wishlist
Anti-Armor Weapons:Since heavily armored enemies naturally spawn onHelldivers 2’s higher difficulties, this makes anti-armor weapons a necessity for players' loadouts. Considering that the available secondary weapons have little to no anti-armor capabilities, this could be a rich vein for future secondary weapons to tap, giving players all-new options for buildcrafting tools. Now thatHelldivers 2’s thermite grenade can penetrate heavy armor, secondary weapons clearly need more heavy-armor penetrating options. Another anti-armor secondary weapon seems like a natural progression for the game at this point.
Anti-Shield Weapons:The newIlluminate enemy faction’s shieldsare quite a distinct feature that sets them apart from other enemy factions inHelldivers 2. Certain weapon types are largely ineffective against these shields, and this is especially true when it comes to secondary weapons inHelldivers 2, though future secondary weapons could change this.
Helldivers 2could look to theDunefranchise’s dartgun technology for a potential future crossover. This kind of weapon excels at penetrating energy shields, making it a seemingly perfect weapon to use against the Illuminate enemy faction’s shields inHelldivers 2.
Crossover Weapons: So far,Helldivers 2has only had one official crossover, which included several new cosmetics, armor, helmets, and weapons, though there were no secondary weapons. Hopefully, though,future crossovers inHelldivers 2won’t shy away from introducing new secondary weapons when they fit with the franchise.
Dual-Wielding:Several of the existing secondary weapons inHelldivers 2can be used one-handed, which allows players to fire their weapon while also carrying certain mission objectives or Stratagems like theSH-20 Ballistic Shield Backpackand the SH-51 Directional Shield. While this can be a useful feature, it’s arguably a missed opportunity that players don’t have the option to dual-wield these weapons. Being able to dual-wield different combinations of one-handed weapons could potentially make them strong enough to rival some of thebest primary weapons inHelldivers 2, opening up a whole new meta.
More Element Weapons:Some of the available secondary weapons inHelldivers 2could arguably benefit from having alternate versions that utilize different Elements, such as a Gas version of the P-72 Crisper or a Stun version of theGP-31 Grenade Pistol. There are already several distinct Elemental damage types inHelldivers 2, though there aren’t many secondary weapons that fully take advantage of some of these utilities yet.
Silenced Weapons:Secondary weapons arguably seem like the perfect opportunity to finally make stealth builds inHelldivers 2a reality. There are already a small handful of weapons that are silent, such as theThrowing Knifeand thenew melee weapons inHelldivers 2, though none of these options can quite handle long-range fights. As much as over-the-top explosions areHelldivers 2’s signature power fantasy, introducing proper stealth builds could still be a refreshing change, especially for solo players.
