InPhantom Brave: The Lost Hero, players are expected, and encouraged, to examine the items on the battlefield carefully when deciding on a strategy. While the stat bonuses offered by a given object can be seen at a glance, it takes a closer inspection to check how Protection effects will impact the battle.

Protection effects are shared between several items whenever they appear inPhantom Brave: The Lost Hero, providing their effect to all items connected by the glowing lines that indicate a Protection effect. This is important to consider, since some protection effects may make an enemy unit much more dangerous, if not outright impossible to defeat. On the other hand, protection effects can be hugely useful when leveraged by your units to strengthen themselves. Knowing how Protection Effects work, and how to remove them, will quickly become vital to your success as the game continues.

How Protection Effects Work

Protection effects first appear early inPhantom Brave: The Lost Hero, indicated by glowing lines connecting two or more objects/units on a map.you’re able to view what the Protection effect does by hovering over one of the objects and expanding the details tab(press L1 on PS5). All objects connected by the glowing line share the same protection effect, and the effect will remain as long as two or more of the objects/units remain on the map.

Any Unit that is confined to an object with a protection effect will gain that protection effect. However, if they plunder the object, it will vanish with them after they leave the map and potentially end the protection effect. Some protection effects might be harmful to enemies and/or beneficial to you, soit’s always worth checking what protection effects are present on a map before taking action.

How to Remove Protection Effects

Protection effects are removed if only one object/unit remains on the map with that effect. There are a few ways you can achieve this, though certain options might be off the table in certain scenarios. For example, destroying objects that have the protection effect can be used to remove them from the mapand thus remove the effect, but some protection effects can render objects difficult or even impossible to destroy (see the example above.) In cases where destroying the object is not an option, there are three alternative strategies available to you.

The most readily available option, in most cases,is to pick up the object(s) and throw them off the mapsince throwing them O.B. will remove them from the map even if they cannot be damaged. You can also use the Merchant’s Stock command to remove it from the mapand add it to the shop (though protection effects are not carried out of the map even if you take the object out of the map with you), orplunder the object with a unit that has a high plunder chanceand then have them leave the map, taking the object with them.
