There are a few crafting activities inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2, all enjoyed in first-person with players having full control over their actions. Out of these,blacksmithing is arguably the most exciting, especially as it wasn’t featured in the first game,whereas Alchemy was.
In thishands-on experience, players will take a slab of metal, heat it up on the forge using the bellows, and then hammer it into shape on an anvil before quenching it in a bucket of water. While Henry grew up as a blacksmith’s son, players will have tolearn how to do blacksmithing inKCD2, and that starts with finding a forge and a teacher. Various weapons can be forged via smithing, including swords and axes. Henry can also forge horseshoes for his mount as well as a few tools to sell.
Where To Learn Blacksmithing In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2?
For those eager to get to work,blacksmithing is available fairly early onin the game, practically as soon as the prologue is over and Henry and Hans have gone their separate ways. As part of theWedding Crashersmain quest line, theB optionis to get into the wedding party with the help of the blacksmith,Radovan.
As he needs an extra pair of hands at his forge, players can head over to theB marker on the map, and offer to help in exchange for a way into the wedding. He is located in a small village calledTachov, to the northwest of Troskowitz.
If players chose option C to help the miller instead, they can still head over to Radovan in Tachov for an introduction to blacksmithing.
By talking to Radovan,The Blacksmith’s Sonquest will begin, and he will give Henry a refresher onhow to forge items. If players ever need to go through the steps again, they can ask Radovan to show them once more.
Getting a job here as the blacksmith’s assistant is one of thebest things to do early inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2,as Henry will gain access to his own bed and chest, acting as a mini-base.
Later on, Henry will find other forges he can Smithies to work in.
Materials & Sketches For Blacksmithing In KCD2
Sketches
Before players can forge a weapon inKCD2or utility items such as horseshoes, they willneed a Sketch, which is essentially a blueprint ofhow to make it, and a list of the materials required.
Sketches can be boughtfrom various traders, particularlyarmorers, and other craftsmen. Others can also befound as lootwhile exploring the vast open world.
Players must click on the Sketch in their inventory to read it and unlock it as a Recipe.
To view these Sketches/Recipes later, players can check theCrafting menuand look under the tabs forSword, Longswords, Axes, and Other. These can also be viewed by clicking on the Forge, as choosing one is the first step of Blacksmithing. All thestats of the forgeable item are visible, allowing players to choose the best.
Materials For Blacksmithing
On the recipe for a weapon or item such as aFarmer’s Horseshoes, there is a list of the required materials. These can includeSteel,Scrap Metal,Fastening Material, and other more exotic or fancy materials.
To acquire these, players canpurchase them from blacksmiths and other craftsmen. Occasionally, players will also find them asloot in chestsand the like.
How To Do Blacksmithing In KCD2
Once players have everything they need, they can start blacksmithing by simply clicking on the anvil.
Throughout, always listen to Henry! He knows best a blacksmith’s son.
Heating Up On The Forge
The first step of blacksmithing inKCD2is heating up the metal on the forge. To do so, players will need to hold down theRight TriggerorQto work the bellows.
At the same time, players will want to move the workpiece by pushing theLeft StickorMouseforward and back. This will ensure that it heats up evenly.
Hammering At The Anvil
Hammering the metal into shape is by far the most complicated part of the process, as timing, aim, and stamina management are all key.
When the metal cools down, return it to the forge withA,Cross, orRand heat it up again.
When Henry deems his work done,he will say soand players simply need to click the accept button, and he will do the rest. He will first return to the forge before quenching the hot item in a bucket of water.
Quality Tiers
For the weapons that Henry forges inKCD2, there arethree quality tiers, depending on how well he did. Higher tiers mean more damage, and they will sell forbetter pricestoo.
Even hammering with good timingresults in these higher-tier weapons being produced. Having a higherCraftmanship skill will also helpwith this.
Best Perks For Blacksmithing In KCD2 & The Craftmanship Skill
Henry’s Craftmanship skillcoverslaundry, the use of repair kits, sharpening swords on a grindstone, and most importantly smithing.Doing any of these will slowly level up the skill, unlockingnew Perksand helping himachieve better results.
A higher Craftmanship skill also means Henry can forge higher tier weapons and repair them!
Another way to level up this skill is topay a blacksmith for some tipsor to find a book on Craftmanship.
Hardened Steel
Level 10
The weapons Henry forges will have excellent properties and will therefore take damage 20% slower.
Locksmith
Level 12
When picking locks, Henry’s Thievery skill will count as 3 higher, so it’ll be a lot easier. Plus, he can also make use of scrap iron, so he will get an extra 1-3 lockpicks for each item successfully forged.
Martin’s Secret
Level 16
Henry will be able to forge weapons of the 4th, i.e. the highest quality. Weapons of this quality cannot be obtained in any other way than by forging them. Their strength and effectiveness are unmatched.
Martin’s Secret is highly desirable, with Henry able to forge some of thebest weaponsin the game. This gives players a goal to grind for with long hours at the forge.
