Mario Kart 8 Deluxeis one of the best installments in a long-standing franchise. Not only does it have a really large racer roster and tons of tracks to explore and have fun in, but there are also many items that players can use to their advantage to win a race. For example, coins are quite unappreciated, butthey help maximize a character’s top speed.

Another very important element when it comes to going as fast as possible are mini-turbos. These come in three different variations; theMini-Turbo,Super Mini-Turbo, andUltra Mini-Turbo. Each one will propel your character forward for different amounts of time, being the Ultra Mini-Turbo the longest. Here’s how to get the Ultra Mini-Turbo inMario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Disable Smart Steering

How To Get An Ultra-Mini Turbo Boost

A lot of players wonder why they’re not getting the Ultra Mini-Turbo when they’re driving, no matter how long they drift. This can happen for a lot of reasons, but the most common one is havingSmart Steering enabled. Smart Steering is great for beginners, as it allows them to stay on the track and increase their chances of winning or at least ending the race in a decent spot. However, this assistance comes at a price, as it disables the option to get an Ultra Mini-Turbo, leaving players with it enabled restricted to the Super Mini-Turbo as their maximum boosting alternative.

If the problem is that you have Smart Steering enabled, getting rid of it is really easy. Press one of the +/- buttons when you’re selecting your character, kart, tires and glider and then look at the bottom of the build’s statistics to find three options, with the leftmost one being Smart Steering. Simply press “L” to deactivate it. Bear in mind that this will make driving much harder, as you won’t have any assistance to stay on the track.
