Though the game does not necessarily explain this, you actually have access to theHyper Light BreakerHoverboard from the start of the game.
The Hoverbaord essentially functions as theHyper Light Breakersprint mechanic, enhancing your movement speed to cover large distances quickly while your Energy runs out slowly. This guide explains how to ride your Hoverboard anddetails some basic attributesof the Hoverboard that make it useful for more than just getting around the Overgrowth quickly.
How To Summon A Hoverboard In Hyper Light Breaker
Tosprint and summon a Hoverboard,Hyper Light Breakerplayerssimply need tohold down the Dodge input. Your Breaker will dash forward, then automatically jump onto a Hoverboard as long as you hold down Dodge.
Movement on a Hoverboard is pretty simple. Holding theleft analog stick in either direction will lean the Hoverboard and slowly turnyou in that direction, depending on your speed. At max speed, turning is quite slow, but when you are traveling slower, it’s much easier to control.
Tostop riding your Hoverboard, simply let go of the Dodge input. TheHyper Light DrifterHoverboard will alsoautomatically de-summon if you run out of Energywhile riding it.
Your current Energy is displayed next to your Breaker’s companion while riding the Hoverboard (or using the Glider). Take a few seconds to jump off the Hoverboard and let it recover if it gets low so you don’t get suddenly dismounted.
Hoverboard Movement Tips & Special Uses
Though there is no system for performing tricks or attacking while riding a Hoverboard,Hyper Light Breakeradds a few attributes and special uses for the Hoverboard that are important to know. For one,the Hoverboard floats on water– that’s right, no longer do you have to totally avoid the inlets and rivers that spawn around the Overgrowth. The Hoverboard works the same on land as on water.
Youcannot summon a Hoverboard while already submerged– youmust already be riding it as you hit the waterto Hoverboard across the surface. It doesn’t matter how high you jump from or how fast you enter the water: the Hoverboard will quickly clip back up to the surface asyour Breaker continues merrily along.
You can alsohold down the default Jump input while riding your Hoverboard to duck down and prepare a Jump. You cannot double-jump while on a Hoverboard, but the extra speed can help youcover larger distances than normal and get across long gaps. Ducking down does not increase your movement speed or jump height – sorry,Tony Hawk’s Pro Skaterfans – but it can help you accurately time a particularly tricky jump.
