1Gather & Explore In Your First Few Cycles
When you set out into the Overgrowth for the first time, don’t worry about making a perfect build or taking on any of the Crown bosses. Instead, it’s a much better idea to spend your time learning the game (especially the combat) andcollecting as many resourcesand items as you may.
For example, restoring and unlocking the three vendors in the Cursed Outpost requires 36x Materials, 12x for each, which can take several runs and a few Cycles to accumulate. Medigems won’t do much for you except provide 5 HP on pickup at first, but they stay in your inventory through cycles, and when you unlock Medkits these will refresh your healing uses.
Don’t B-Line the Prisms or Bosses in your first few Cycles. Explore the map, become familiar with its roguelite systems and combat mechanics, and collect every special resource or item to improve your future runs.
2Upgrade Medkits & Unlock Gear Upgrades
After completing a Cycle, Pherus Bit will appear next to the teleporter and assess your progression, represented by a yellow bar in the middle of the screen. If you complete map objectives (like collecting gear, grabbing Prisms, taking on mini-bosses and bosses, etc), the bar will fill more. If you fill the bar you will be rewarded with a Golden Ration.
Golden Rations are used for a lot of things inHyper Light Breaker, but you should prioritize unlocking Medkits and unlocking the ability to upgrade Equipment.Medkits can be unlocked in the Skill Tree, which can be customized via Pherus Bit, by spending a Golden Ration on the first node to the right of the “Tier 1” text.
After unlocking the ability to use Medkits, remember to equip it, then head back into the overgrowth. Spend your next two Golden Rations on increasing your Affinity with the Blade and Rail vendors back in the Hub. Increasing your Affinity by one with each of these vendors will allow you to upgrade Gear with Bright Blood, increasing Durability, damage, and sometimes applying new effects.
3Sell Degraded Items For Bright Blood In The Hub
If you die during a run, your currently-equipped gear will degrade by one point, including equipped Holos. The current durability of an item is displayed by bars at the bottom of the item. If an item only has 1 Durability, the bar will stretch across the item description. An item with two Durability has two bars, an item with three Durability has three, etc.
If your equipment is on the verge of breaking, consider selling it for Bright Blood and Materials. You can access the Sell menu at any vendor, which opens up your currently-equipped items and items in your Stash to select from. Hover over each item to see its durability, and if it’s going to break or you won’t use it, sell it for some Bright Blood to afford new gear or gear upgrades in between runs.
4Extraction Is Key To Finishing Cycles
If you want to stand a chance of finishing a Cycle inHyper Light Breaker, it’s important to prioritize Extraction as a part of your runs. When you Extract from the overgrowth,you do not lose Rez, Durability, or your collected resources. Instead, you are sent back to the Hub with everything and can upgrade and replace gear in safety before heading back in.
You do have to face off against a wave of enemies and a miniboss after initiating an Extraction, but beginning this event also heals you for 50 HP. Look for the icon of a horizontal white line with a red arrow pointed up on your minimap to locate the current Extraction location, and head towards it if you have enough Resources to buy something nice, the Danger level has reached at least 50%, or your HP is getting low.
5Grab Every Map Node & Prism Before Bosses
After becoming familiar with the game and becoming more confident in your abilities, you may be feeling the urge to take on the first Crown boss, which requires 2x Prisms to fight. The thing is, unless you have been extremely lucky, by the time you get two Prisms, your build is probably not capable of taking on a Crown.
The game is extremely punishing, but you’re able to increase your odds by clearing every map node in the Overgrowth before taking on your first boss of the cycle. Collect every piece of gear, every holo, and every Prism before going to the two-Prism Crown boss, and you will have plenty of pieces to choose from to put together a strong build.
Remember that you can Extract between bosses, if your HP is not full, to refresh and get ready for the next one.
The three Bosses do not differ too much in terms of difficulty – they’re all tough – so there’s no reason not to make your build as strong as possible before going for them.If you’re able to beat the first boss(which is usually Dro, the Wolf), you can probably beat the others.
verify you Extract as often as possible during a Cycle to have the most chances against these bosses after clearing everything else. There is no downside to Extracting, so pop in and out as you clear nodes to preserve as much Rez as possible.
6Multiplayer Makes Things Much More Manageable
Though it’s possible to play and beat a Cycle inHyper Light Breakeron your own in singleplayer, the game is significantly easier if yougo in with a Squad. Having other players in your group does increase enemy HP a bit, but it also gives them more targets to focus on, splitting their attention.
One of the biggest issues with singleplayerHyper Light Breakeris the sheer number of enemies that will aggro all at once, pitting players against 20 or more enemies at the same time. If you have two or three other players with you, suddenly you don’t have to face all of them, and combat becomes much more manageable.
