Ichi the Witchhas only been serializing for months, but despite that, it has become one of the most popular manga titles. It is the result of a combination of manga quality and endorsements from two of the most well-known authors within the industry. So far, the creators ofMy Hero Academiaand Chainsaw Man have asked fans to support the new series.
Coming back to the first reason, it is obvious that only endorsements don’t work. The quality of the manga must be enough to back up the claim. Ichi the Witch is the brainchild of two outstanding artists: Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki. Previously, the twowere interviewed by Manga Plus, inwhich they answered many questions, including one about their favorite character. Surprisingly,Osamu Nishi and Shiro Usazaki gave the same answer: Desscaras.

Ichi the Witch Creators Have The Same Favorite Character
While the creators have the same favorite character, their reasons for liking her are different. Osamu Nishi considers Desscaras his favorite because she is the personification of unpredictability. Desscaras is free, which makes her more ‘alive’ than the rest. Osamu Nishi also joked that the eccentric witch is always up to something.
No other characters feel as “alive” as she does—always acting unpredictably and freely. I enjoy writing for her because she’s almost always up to something strange when she’s on the page. I’m sure she’s doing something bizarre even as we speak.

Shiro Usazaki, the illustratorfor Ichi the Witch, also likesDesscaras. She thinks Desscaras brightens any scene with her personality. Shiro Usazaki also disclosed that she enjoys drawing the witch. The illustrator also disclosed that she prefers the character design of Shirabedonna.
The Duo Offered An Insight Into The Manga’s Creation
In the same interview, Osamu Nishi shared what inspired him to create Ichi the Witch. He revealed that Card Captor Sakuraand Pokemon served as the main inspirations forthe series. Meanwhile, Shiro Usazaki shared her most memorable moment when it came to Ichi the Witch. The artist disclosed that drawing Ichi in the 4th chapter changed the way she looked at the character and left a strong impression on her.
The two have done a splendid job so far, and readers will be hoping that they continue to release high-quality chapters. So far, only a single volume has been released, but it was met with an immensely positive reception. In fact, it was sold out at many stores,so Shueisha immediately ordered areprint to deal with shortages.
