Immortals of Aveumwas released back in August 2023, and it failed to meet critical or financial success. Due to these issues,Immortals of Aveumcurrently stands with an average critic score of only 72 on OpenCritic.

Now, as spotted byDark Side of Gaming, EA has recently removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech fromImmortals of Aveum. The change occurs around 18 months after the original release ofImmortals of Aveum, and is not very surprising, considering that standard Denuvo contracts often only last for a while to prevent piracy in the first months after a game is released. While Denuvo is overwhelmingly disliked by PC gamers due to its invasive nature and players often accuse it of affecting the performance of games, it’s unclear whether this removal will impact the performance ofImmortals of Aveumin any way.

While part ofImmortals of Aveum’s financial failure was likely attributed to the beginning of the current crisis the gaming industry is facing, the game was heavily criticized even by some Ascendant Studio developers. In one interview, a former developer of the studio revealed thatImmortals of Aveumwas massively overscoped. The game allegedly had a budget of $125 million, $40 million of which was used in marketing, and it was the studio’s debut. The developer also bashed the game for being a single-player FPS game in the current market, which was described as essentially a bad idea, as multiplayer is what keeps most games in the genre alive.
