Scream 7is currently in production in Atlanta as the iconic horror franchise prepares to return to the big screen on June 20, 2025. TheScream 7development process has been challenging. Still, an impressive cast has been assembled, featuring new actors and several familiar faces who will return to the franchise to continue developing their characters.
Things are being kept under wraps about what audiences can expect fromScream 7,butthe classic slasher movie seriesis expected to keep the same tone as ever by blending humor and major jump scares. Seeing the iconic Neve Campbell again will give audiences a familiar feeling, but she won’t be alone in her return.
Deadlinehas revealed that Joel McHale, best known for starring in the hit television seriesCommunity, is the latest actor to join the cast ofScream 7officially. He joins a cast featuring Courtney Cox and Mason Gooding, returning as Gale Weathers and Chad Meeks-Martin. Still, there will also be a host of new characters as part ofScream 7, opening up the movie to completely different storyline possibilities. McHale is set to play the husband of Campbell’s iconic character, Sidney Prescott. She is the face of theScreamfranchise as the ultimate final girl, and she’sreturning to the franchise for the seventh installmentand apparently will have a new husband alongside her.
McHale joining the cast as Sidney’s husband is likely to surprisefans of theScreamfranchisebecause that means there is a major change for her character. Previously, Sidney was married to Patrick Dempsey’s Detective Mark Kincaid, and at no point in any of the existing movies has a divorce or a death been shown. However, between Sidney’s previous Scream appearance and now, something has significantly changed to lead her to a new man, which will likely be explained in this movie.
Sidney is always at the heart of theScreamfranchise’s action due to her character’s connections to Ghostface. Therefore, it can be expected that McHale’s unnamed character is likely going to be thrust into the face of danger at some point. However, little is known about his character’s plot at the moment outside of that romantic connection, although a certain amount of backstory is going to be necessary withinScream 7to fully explain who he is and how he ended up involved with Sidney in the first place. It will be interesting to see whether or not he alsohas past connections to Ghostfaceor if he will be thrown in at the deep end of this movie.
Adding McHale to the movie is an interesting announcement as it provides a major twist to Sidney’s character before the film begins. That should keep things exciting and proves thattheScreamfranchise is always happy to shake things upto ensure that the movies feel fresh and different. There will no doubt be speculation that he could end up being behind the mask simply due to his connection to Sidney, but it will remain to be seen whether that’s the case inScream 7.
