TheDevil May Cryanime project was announced quite a long time ago when Adi Shankar announced his acquisition of the title in 2018, completing the scripts together with Alex Larsen in November 2021. The anime’sfirst teaser trailer was released in 2023. While it may feel like it, this isn’t the first time the franchise has been seen in anime form, as there was a 2007Devil May Cryanime created by Capcom and produced by Madhouse, the famous studio behind countless hits from the 2000s and 2010s, includingDeath Note,Death Parade, the first season ofOne Punch Man, and more.
What’s different about this one is that it is helmed by the producer ofCastlevania, possibly one of the best adaptations of the current era that has seen immense success. The upcoming anime is being produced bystaff at Studio MIR (LOOKISM), and will premiere on Netflix on April 3. The first season ofDevil May Cryis set to have eight episodes, and will focus on the characters of Dante, Vergil and Lady. So far, Johnny Yong Bosch is the only cast member who has been revealed, but we can expect more information about the staff and cast to be revealed at a later date.
