Lately, a lot of players have been noticing aMarvel Rivalsglitch at 30 FPSthat has appeared to cause a select group of heroes to deal less damage than they would be if the game were running at 60 or 120 FPS. Reports from the community have shown this glitch affecting Dr. Strange, Magik, Star-Lord, Venom, and Wolverine, reducing the damage on some or all of their attacks at lower frame rates. A post from a community manager on theMarvel Rivalsofficial Discord server, under the game-news tab, has since confirmed some of players' suspicions about the glitch, stating that some heroes have movement issues at lower frame rates, and these issues can extend to the damage they deal with attacks. While fixing the issue “may take some time,” Community Manager James assured fans that the upcoming Season 1 version of the game, which is expected to begin on January 11, will address the issue in some form.
Marvel Rivals is Fixing the 30 FPS Damage Bug
The underlying cause of the issue seems to be stemming from a specific programmingfeature inMarvel Rivals, the client-side prediction mechanism. This is a technique in programming that is typically used to remove the appearance of lag by moving the character onscreen before the server can actually process the input from a player.
The post from the community manager didn’t provide a comprehensive list of the heroes or moves that are officially being affected by the bug, though it did citeWolverine’s Feral Leap abilityas one of the moves on the list, along with his Savage Claw. He stated that the effects are much more noticeable when the moves are being tested against stationary targets, though they’re harder to pick up on during actual matches. If the addressing of the FPS issue in the Season 1 launch doesn’t fully fix the FPS damage issue, it should be resolved in a future update.
