Marvel Rivalshas been firing on all cylinders since it made its debut. Its competitive system is as fair as it is fun, while its lore is impressively deep. NetEase’s plannedcadence forMarvel Rivalshero additionsis impressive, while its Season 1 multiplayer map additions are another good sign for the future. The game’s team-up system adds layers to the combat, while its destruction and third-person format gives it a clear identity when compared to other hero shooters likeOverwatch 2. It’s no surprise, then, thatMarvel Rivals’ cosmetic game is on point, with one upcoming crossover only adding to its strength.
Marvel Rivalshas had smaller collaborations with games likeFortniteandMarvel Snap, with its biggest team-up being the obvious slam dunk that is MCU skins. WithCaptain America: Brave New Worldpoised to grant players some exclusive items, and skins likeEndgameIron Man or No Way Home Spider-Man likely being a large chunk of the revenue generated by the game in its first month, all sides seem to be benefiting from this collaboration. The trend of successful collaborations is likely to continue given the popularity of the next costume being added, as Insomniac’s Advanced Suit is beloved by many. However, it feels likeMarvel’s Spider-Man- and Marvel games as a whole - could provide much more than this one outfit.
Marvel Rivals’ Advanced Suit 2.0 Skin Should Only Be One of Many
Marvel Rivalsplayers will soon be able to swing around Midtown andTokyo 2099with Insomniac’s iconic white spider equipped, asMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s iteration of the Advanced Suit is set to release on January 30. While this is good reason to celebrate, as it’s a distinct look due to the amount of white used throughout the design, it’s hardly the only costume from Insomniac’s series that could be added. The following Insomniac originals would be perfect forMarvel Rivals:
All of these outfits were designed by Insomniac and could have contributed to a larger bundle based on the game. Still, maybe this could happen if the initial collaboration proves to be a hit, as all of these looks would stand out from Peter’s current collection of costumes.Fortnite-like alternate styles could add Anti-Venom, Negative, and Anti-Ock recolors for the Advanced 2.0 suit, while the others could become separate additions. The hooded Scarlet Spider 3, Black Cat’s Dark Suit, theKraven-themed Last Hunt design, and the Velocity suit that received its own tie-in comic all deserve a chance to shine outside of Insomniac’s games.Marvel Rivalsfeaturing Venom as a playable character also means hisSpider-Man 2design with its jagged spider symbol could be added, perhaps with an MVP intro featuring his wings.
Insomniac has stated that similar characters with different abilities could become playable down the road, makingMiles Morales’ addition likely. This instantly opens the door for even more Insomniac suits to be added.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Isn’t The Only Game NetEase Can Pull From
Marvel Rivals’ willingness to team-up with a singleplayer franchise likeMarvel’s Spider-Manopens up a whole new avenue for skins. For instance,Eidos-Montreal’s underratedGuardians of the Galaxygamehad its own designs for the characters that could be adapted.Marvel’s Midnight Sunsis packed with potential crossover skins, as every hero in the game had a look themed around the Midnight Suns team. Even the ill-fatedMarvel’s Avengershad original suits for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that could make good Rivals skins, and the same goes for upcoming titles likeMarvel 1943. Plus, games likeMarvel’s Spider-Manfeature their share of deep-cut comic book suits that NetEase has yet to adapt, such as Arachknight, so the developer should consider studying up on games that have featured or focused on the characters seen inRivals. Hopefully, NetEase views the Advanced Suit 2.0 as the beginning of something special instead of a one-off.
