Marvel Rivalsrocked the world with a record-setting release, and has continued to enjoy massive success in the short time since. There is a thriving community for competitive and casual modes alike, and both have enthusiastically tackled their own unique set of challenges. This enthusiasm aroundMarvel Rivalsis thanks in no small part to healthy transparency between players and developers.
One of the best examples of this as of now is the Hero Hot List. Around the same timeSeason 1 ofMarvel Rivalswent live, developers launched a site that allows players to track the win rates and pick rates of any hero in Season 0. As useful as a tool as this is, there are a few contradictions that everyone should look out for if they want to make the most of the Hero Hot List.

Marvel Rivals' Hero Hot List Misses the Full Picture on Pick Rates
How to Navigate Marvel Rivals' Hero Hot List
The Hero Hot list uses four main categories to organizeMarvel Rivals' roster. These categories are as follows: Platform, Game Mode, Role, and Rank. These categories can be viewed in pretty much any combination of their individual options, which allows players to get a very granular view of the data at hand. However, some important information can get lost in the noise, including a few caveats about how the tool can be used.
The Platform category only distinguishes between PC and Console, and makes no separation between different consoles. Meanwhile, the Game Mode category allows players to view stats for either Quick Play or Competitive. However, heroes are only separated by Platform within the Competitive tab, meaning casual players have less frame of reference for detailed stats. Within the Role and Rank tabs, players can choose to view the data for all players in each. Alternatively, they can get into categories specific to either, such asthe Duelist roleor the Grandmaster rank.

Marvel Rivals' Pick Rates Have an Interesting Quirk
Win rates inMarvel Rivalsare pretty self-explanatory, as is the method by which it is organized. By contrast, pick rate is a little more difficult to quantify in a hero shooter.Marvel Rivalshas a few unique challenges of its own, and these are addressed accordingly within the Hero Hot List. However, pick rates are organized in such a way that may have created some confusion in the process.
While win rate is collected based on the performance of a hero’s player base, pick rate isn’t nearly as singular. Rather than heroes having their pick rate be measured against the entire cast, each hero is limited to the peers within their role. This method is easiest to view within theStrategisttab, as it was the role with the lowest number of heroes at the time that the first Hero Hot List was published.

Marvel Rivals' Roster Creates Unique Challenges for the Hero Hot List
Marvel Rivalshas an infamously lopsided roster. The game is actually relatively well-balanced, despite the absurd strategies many heroes are capable of. When viability is put aside, however, the roster’s composition is easy to call into question. Duelists take up the vast amount of space onMarvel Rivals' roster, while Vanguards and Strategists lag far behind. Even consideringMarvel Rivals' lack of role queue, this isn’t so much of a problem by itself.
However, this disparity is the reason that the game’s pick rates can be a little bit deceiving. The number of heroes of any given role will vary from match to match, and individual Duelists have many more heroes to compete against. Even if heroes aren’t currently organized by who is picked the most out of the entire cast, it is still helpful to compare heroes against the other members of the role. In fact, it may even be more helpful to find whichMarvel Rivalsheroes deserve buffs and nerfsin the future.
