An inherent part of a live-service game’s ever-evolving nature is that the meta is always changing. New balancing updates, character reworks, and new additions to the roster continuously change who’s considered the most viable in the competitive scene.Marvel Rivalsis no exception to this rule.

Marvel Rivals' competitive meta has gone through some pretty significant changes since the start of Season 0. Storm is now widely considered to be an S-tier hero, with Rocket zipping up the tiers alongside her, Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman have joined the roster and become heavy hitters, and Hawkeye’s nerfs have dropped him down a few tiers. But there’s one overlookedMarvel RivalsDuelist whose spot in the meta has remained largely unchanged since the game’s launch, and it’s about time that changed.

Marvel Rivals' Namor Is Being Slept On

Marvel Rivals' Namor Has an Interesting Pick-Win Ratio

According toNetEase’s officialMarvel RivalsHero Hot List(last updated January 6), Namor might be a bit of an underrated hero in the current meta. When it comes to pick rate, Namor is found towards the bottom ofMarvel Rivals' roster. On PC, Namor has a pick rate of just 4.34%, meaning he’s ranked 11th out of 18 Duelists, and 26th out of 33 heroes overall (not including Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman, who hadn’t come to the game yet).

But while Namor may have a low pick rate, his win rate is surprisingly high. According to the latest stats, Namor has a 51.25% win rate, ranking him 5th out of the Duelists, and 12th out of all heroes. This means Namor has a higher win rate thanheroes like Captain America, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Magneto, and even Luna Snow, who currently has the highest pick rate of any hero at 20.66%.

Namor’s console stats tell a similar tale. Though his pick rate on console is a little higher at 4.89%, he’s ranked even lower, being the 13th most picked Duelist, and the 28th most picked hero overall.Namor’s win rateon console is slightly lower, however, coming in at 50.95%. But that still ranks him 5th among Duelists and 13th overall.

Though these official stats might be a little outdated now given Season 1’s meta changes, it’s likely that Namor’s pick and win rates haven’t changed too much in the last few weeks, and it’s likely that he’s still a fairly underrated hero.

How Players Can Make The Most of Namor’s Ability Kit

Namor isn’t as popular as larger-than-life heroes like Iron Man, Hulk, and Spider-Man, and he isn’t as niche as the likes of Jeff the Land Shark and Squirrel Girl.Namor’s abilities inMarvel Rivalsaren’t particularly special either, at least on the surface. He can’t dive, and his primary fire damage isn’t massive. But while they may not be flashy or overtly powerful, Namor’s abilities can be incredibly useful in just about any game mode, and against pretty much any team composition.

It all revolves aroundNamor’s Monstro Spawn, a duo of squid-like turrets that can be attached to any surface. The placement of these turrets is key for any Namor players wanting to reach higher competitive ranks. Much like Peni Paker’s Nest, Namor players should try to hide their Monstro Spawn behind cover and in out-of-reach places, but leave just enough room so that they still have line-of-sight on most enemies.

Namor players should also make sure they’re using the “Blessing of the Deep” protective bubble to escape fights the moment they’re outnumbered or overwhelmed, as Namor works much better as a long-range attacker.

Namor players also need to make sure they’re using the “Wrath of the Seven Seas” ability (right mouse click) as often as possible, using it to direct all Monstro Spawn to attack one specific target. This ability also gives the Monstro Spawn a temporary attack speed boost, allowing them to shred through Strategists and Duelists in seconds.
