It might be an understatement to say thatMarvel Rivalshas had a successful launch. After meeting and maintaining some impressive numbers throughout Season 0,Marvel Rivalsseems bound to keep growing from here. With the example now set by Season 1, this may be an increasingly difficult task to accomplish.

Developers have explicitly stated that Season 1 will feature about double the content of a standard season. This means that future updates were never meant to measure up to Season 1, and this isn’t entirely a cause for concern. Even if future seasons only contain half of thecontent introduced inMarvel RivalsSeason 1, that would still bode very well for future developer support.

Marvel Rivals Season 1 is Packed with New Heroes, Maps, and Modes

Marvel Rivals Season 1 Adds The Fantastic Four as Playable Heroes

Marvel RivalsSeason 1 has expanded the game in almost every metric. New heroes will always be the main attraction for this sort of update, and Season 1 has no shortage of them.Marvel Rivalsannounced the new season alongsideThe Fantastic Four, who essentially serve as the protagonists of the current story. Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman have already been added for the first half of the season, while The Thing and The Human Torch will be added during the second half.

Adding four new heroes in the first season of the game is nearly unheard of for hero shooters, and will balloon the size ofMarvel Rivals' rosterall the way to 37. This means thatMarvel Rivalsis already approaching the roster size ofOverwatch 2, its biggest competitor in the genre. More importantly, this has set an absolute breakneck pace for the game to keep up. Best of all, playable heroes are just the beginning of the new content being added toMarvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals Season 1 Adds Plenty of Additional Content

Marvel Rivalshas also added 3 new mapsas a part of Season 1. Two of them are NYC-themed maps found in standard gameplay, while the third is the odd one out. Sanctum Sanctorum is exclusive to Doom Match, a new deathmatch-style game mode introduced in Season 1, and its addition to the game proves just how deep this commitment to new content goes.

Last but not least, the Empire of Eternal Night has introduced 10new skins in the Battle Passalone. This doesn’t even account for skins corresponding to the new heroes, with The Maker and Malice providing some appealing options for fans of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman respectively. If future seasons come even close to this pace of new skins, it’s safe to say that players interested in new cosmetics will have nothing to worry about.

Future Marvel Rivals Seasons Can’t Keep Up with Season 1

True to their name, The Fantastic Four have arrived inMarvel Rivalsas a perfect quartet. It’s unlikely that developers will be able to find such a thematically perfect grouping of this size in the future. However, if certainMarvel Rivalsleaks are to be believed, future heroes could be added in pairs during future seasons.

This would be right in line with developer statements about Season 1 being double the normal size. All things considered, this intentional drop off is probably for the best. Adding two characters per season sounds incredibly difficult, but adding four per season would seem completely impossible. There’s no doubt that the Season 1 content is impressive, and it is nice to see the launch of the game celebrated in such a manner. After its launch has passed the horizon, it will be nice to seeMarvel Rivalsmove in a more sustainable direction.
