After being in production for nearly a decade, Mojang Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures finally plan to release the long awaitedMinecraftmovie later this year. This live-action adaptation of the hit sandbox game, which is simply titledA Minecraft Movie, has been directed byNapoleon Dynamitedirector Jared Hess, and it features multiple A-list actors. Jack Black plays the role of Steve, the iconic mascot of theMinecraftseries, and Jason Momoa portrays Garret “The Garbage Man” Garrison, a washed-up video game champion who can’t move on from his past.
A Minecraft Movieis going to release exclusively in theaters on Jun 27, 2025, and to celebrate its debut, Mojang Studios is hosting several promotional campaigns with brands around the world, including, of all things, Doritos. Mojang is no stranger to doing food-related collaborations like this one. In the past, the studio worked with companies like Mondelez International and Kellogg’s to releaseMinecraft-themed food products, such asthe Minecraft: Creeper Crunch cereal, the Minecraft PEZ Collection, and Minecraft Go-Gurt. This new Doritos collaboration, however, is especially unique.

Frito-Lay is Releasing Two New Minecraft-Themed Doritos Flavors
Later this month, Frito-Lay will introduce two new Doritos variants inspired by some of the iconic mobs from theMinecraftfranchise. One of them, titled Creeper Vinegar, has been described by Frito-Lay as having a “zesty” and “explosive” flavor. The other, named Ghast BBQ, has been characterized as “sweet and tangy.” Although these new Doritos variants will only retain theirMinecraftbranding for a limited period of time, they will remain as permanent additions to the Doritos lineup. When themarketing campaign forA Minecraft Movieends, the Creeper Vinegar and Ghast BBQ flavors will be renamed to Zingy Vinegar Blast and BBQ Sweet Tang, respectively.
Frito-Lay is Hosting a Contest Centered Around Finding Square-Shaped Doritos Chips
This promotional campaign doesn’t end here, though. In addition to these new flavors, Frito-Lay has also announced that, for the first time ever, it is going to launch new, square-shaped tortilla chips to coincide withthe release ofA Minecraft Movie. Unlike the aforementioned flavors, these square chips are not going to be sold in packages. Instead, they will be manufactured in incredibly limited quantities and hidden inside one hundred 180g Chili Heatwave Doritos chip packs. These packages will be sold in select storefronts from February 28 to March 10. Frito-Lay has said that it is going to provide hints about their locations in the coming weeks.
Minecraftfans who are unable to get their hands on these elusive square chips need not worry, because they will also have the opportunity to get digital replicas of them. From February 17 to April 13, Frito-Lay is going to host an online contest that will challenge participants to find digital versions of the square Doritos chips by scanning QR codes on promotional chip packs. Those who are lucky enough to find one of these square chips, whether digitally or in real life, will be eligible for cash prizes of up to £10k. Many other prizes, such asA Minecraft Movie-themed merchandiseand cinema tickets, will also be given away to participants every hour from 6 A.M. to 11:59 P.M., within the allotted time frame for the contest.
The Doritos x A Minecraft Movie Promotional Campaign is Only Being Held in the U.K.
So far, thisA Minecraft Moviemarketing campaign has only been announced for the United Kingdom. Neither Mojang nor Frito-Lay have confirmed plans to make theseMinecraft-themed chipsavailable in other territories, like the U.S., Canada, or Mexico. Considering how much effort has been put into this promotional event, it would be very strange not to hold it in more countries. Exempting millions of gamers around the world from this campaign seems like a difficult-to-understand business decision. At the very least, though,Minecraftfans who live outside the U.K. will probably get a chance to taste the Zingy Vinegar Blast and BBQ Sweet Tang Doritos flavors someday.
