Many of the second-wave DLC characters added toMortal Kombat 1have been centered around classic movie characters from the 80s and 90s, withScream’s nightmare-inducing Ghostface killer and the titular Conan the Barbarian entering the battle to save (or destroy) Earthrealm. The latter was just introduced this week, serving as the second Arnold Schwarzenegger character to be included in NetherRealm’s pioneering fighting game series after the T-800 Terminator inMortal Kombat 11.
Another mechanical murderer from theTerminatorfranchise will soon warp his way intoMortal Kombat 1- the dreaded T-1000 that made itsfrightening debut in 1991’sTerminator 2: Judgement Day. Sent into the past to kill a young John Conner before he can grow up to lead the human resistance against Skynet, the T-1000 has the ability to shapeshift using its liquid metal body. Original T-1000 actor Robert Patrick will lend both his likeness and voice toMortal Kombat 1’s next DLC character.
Mortal Kombat 1development chief and franchise co-creator Ed Boon recently took to Twitter to celebrate the release ofConan the Barbarian as a playable character, thanking fans for their continued support and announcing that the game has now sold over five million copies. He then shifted the topic over to the upcoming T-1000 DLC with a short gameplay clip showing what appears to be the robot killer’s Fatality. The T-1000 highjacks a tracker-trailer truck and uses it to run down a hapless Johnny Cage, a reference to a similar scene fromTerminator 2.

Ed Boon didn’t share anything else about the T-1000 DLC, leaving fans to guess when thenextMortal Kombat 1guest characterwill be released. From what has been shown so far, it seems that NetherRealm is continuing its practice of paying homage to the source material its guest characters come from in their move sets and Fatalities, just like how one of Ghostface’s kills is pulled directly from the originalScreammovie. While some players feel that T-1000 is being introduced toMortal Kombata game late, others are nonetheless excited to see how the machine’s shapeshifting powers translate into gameplay.
The future ofMortal Kombat 1after the release of the T-1000 is in question, as recent leaks have claimedthat NetherRealm scrapped its plansfor the game’s third DLC season. This hasn’t been officially verified, and some are taking Ed Boon’s statement of “keeping on trucking with future DLC” as a sign that this might not be the case after all. In the meantime,Mortal Kombat 1players can now take to the battlefield as Conan the Barbarian, who just so happens to resemble the T-1000’s onscreen nemesis.
