Evil is inherent within theCall of Duty Zombiesfranchise, and fromWorld at WartoBlack Ops 6, some characters exhibit some truly evil tendencies that often prove that they are no better, or in fact worse, than the plagued undead hordes that seek to rip the flesh of the player apart. Whether it’s through the corruption of the Dark Aether or otherwise,COD Zombiesharbor some truly evil characters.
Two running themes of the most evilCOD Zombiescharacters involve a lust for power and selfishness, which these characters certainly exhibit. Heading all the way back to the start ofCall of Duty Zombiesand intothe new sagawithBlack Ops 6, it’s time to take a look at the most evil characters so far.
8Samantha Maxis
A Lost Little Girl, Corrupted by the Dark Aether
Samantha Maxis was a typical little girl who just wanted to play with her dog, Fluffy, and receive her father’s love. Yet, her father’s busy work as a Nazi scientist kept her from having an ordinary life, and Samantha became the cruel victim of Edward Richtofen’s experiments. Eventually, Samantha was forced into a teleporter, where she would run into the Moon Pyramid Device and be captured and corrupted by it.
From within the MPD, Samantha Maxis drowned in the Dark Aether, a source of ultimate evil and ultimate power. Samantha Maxis is the first villain in theCOD Zombiesfranchise due to the fact that she controls the zombie hordes in an effort to kill her aggressors as her father wished, but at the end of the day, she’s still just a scared and lost little girl who was corrupted by dark forces, and it’s really not her fault that she was like this.
7Edward Richtofen (Primis)
A Man Who Tries So Very Hard to Do the Right Thing
Edward Richtofen from the Primis timeline isn’t exactly a good man, even if he tries. This is a version of Richtofen that will dowhatever it takes to survive, no matter who he has to betray or kill: he will live. This Richtofen has seen universes fall, and his dimension-hopping adventures are all in an effort to keep himself from death, no matter the bodies that pile up with his harsh and selfish decisions.
What makes this Richtofen evil is the fact that he has perpetually trapped him along with his allies into a repeating and unending cycle, just so that he doesn’t have to die. Living the same cycle for eons just to avoid death is no way to live, and his allies are none the wiser to his scheme.
6Edward Richtofen (Ultimis)
Theoriginal 1.0 versionof Richtofen comes from the Ultimis timeline. This is a Richtofen that worked alongside the Nazis with Group 935, but he wasn’t actually a Nazi, and just worked with them for their funding and their research in 115 so Richtofen could build a teleporter and advance science altogether. However, Richtofen’s experiments saw him corrupted by the Dark Aether, where the voices in his head would slowly drive him deeper into his sadistic insanity.
Richtofen would experiment on others, including a little girl called Samantha. Richtofen led his unsuspecting allies into his grand scheme where he would use the MPD to take over the zombie hordes, not to stop them, but to relish in the sensation of power and leave his allies for dead. Ultimis Richtofen is not a good person, and his corruption from the Dark Aether makes him truly evil.
5Cornelius Pernell
The Director of Broken Arrow Who Became the Avogadro to Evolve Himself
Cornelius Pernell was originally just an American handler in World War 2 who would send men to investigate Group 935. Yet, Pernell didn’t seem to care much about his men and would send them to their deaths, only caring about his own climbing of the ladder. Eventually, Cornelius Pernell would lead the CIA’s Groom Lake division, where he received funding from the government to create Broken Arrow, an organization that handled and experimented with Element 115.
Using 115, Pernell would experiment on test subjects togrow in power, and it seemed that all of this was in delusional service to his government to prepare for an impending invasion of Samantha Maxis. Pernell had the American Pyramid Device constructed, and even tortured Dr. Yuri Zavoyski to death, and eventually experimented on himself in an effort to reach Agartha. These experiments would spell the end of Pernell, as he would evolve into a powerful being known as the Avogadro, an immortal who drinks from the Dark Aether and controls his own zombie army.
4Ludvig Maxis (Ultimis)
A Nazi Scientist Who Relished in the Corruption of Himself and His Daughter
Ludvig Maxis is definitely not the ideal father, and his devotion to the Nazis to provide them with an undead army would eventually consume him. His frustrations with his work and his experiments would lead him to be abusive to his Group 935 staff, to neglect his daughter, and to see only desires to help the Nazi party instead of science as a whole, which is one of the reasons why Richtofen had him teleported to the unknown.
When Maxis was teleported, he learned the powers to convert his soul to machinery, which is why when he was reunited with his daughter Samantha on the Moon, he killed himself in front of her so that she would have the grief and the rage to kill everyone with her zombie army. Ludvig then pursuedRichtofen’s grand schemeand decided the best way to counter him having a zombie army was to effectively nuke the Earth in its entirety. Even then, Maxis did not stop, and he manipulated the survivors of Earth to give him control of the Aether so that he could “free” his daughter, and take control of the zombie hordes himself. He’s truly a human monster.
3Doctor Monty
An Ancient Keeper Who Keeps the Universe in a Constant, Repeating Cycle
Dr. Monty controls the Aether, allowing himself to bask in the powers of the infinite and beyond reality itself. While Monty initially seemed as a vague and enigmatic figure who only wanted to save the universe from thecorruption of the Apothicons, it would eventually seem that Monty was no better than his enemies. Monty desires peace and a constant state of predictability so that he can always stay in control, which is why he has the universe enter a paradoxical looped state.
Dr. Monty never has any intention of being defeated, nor does he have any intentions of letting people outside the box, so to speak. For Monty, it’s all about control over his perfect world, and while he has aided Primis before, it’s all in the servitude of his desires to stay in charge by looping a cycle of repetition so that nothing ever changes, and free will seems to be just an illusion under his grasp.
2Brutus, The Warden
The Warden of Alcatraz Who Worships the Apothicons
While Dr. Monty has the powers of the universe, Brutus is just a mere pawn in the tug-of-war match between the Keepers and the Apothicons. Brutus was once the warden of Alcatraz until the seductive and evil whispers of the Shadowman would guide him into the execution of 3 prisoners in order tocreate a pocket dimensionthat would eventually be used to trap Primis Richtofen to create a portal with his blood.
Brutus has spent cycles tormenting Sal, Finn, Wesel, and Billy, trapping them in a repetitive loop where they are forced to fight against zombies, only to die to them or each other to wake up and repeat it again, and again. Brutus’ sick devotion to the Apothicons saw him execute himself via electric chair just so he could sacrifice the souls of these four prisoners, over and over like it was a game for him to continue the cycle and await the demands of his demonic masters.
1The Shadowman
The Original Harbinger of Doom Who Seeks the End of Life Itself
First appearing as an enigmatic figure with a rather strapping suit and fedora, the Shadowman would reveal himself as an Apothicon, an ancient being ofimmense powerwith a lust for evil and chaos in its entirety. The Shadowman serves the Apothicons, seeking to delve universes into utter ruin. All life is insignificant, and he will manipulate whoever listens to his whispers in order to acquire his grand goal of total nothingness and the chaos that lurks within the between.
The Shadowman was once a Keeper, the first species that would protect the universe. That was until his corruption from the Dark Aether would turn him into a dreaded Apothicon that would manipulate worlds, corrupt the innocent, and seek the total destruction of humanity and life as a whole.
