Summary
Necesseis anexploration, survival, and base-building gamethat hits you with a lot of stuff all at once. It has a lot of mechanics, and it doesn’t hold back even at the start for the sake of new players. This can make it feel quite overwhelming at the start, but once players play for a few hours, they can start getting into a rhythm that will define the rest of their gameplay.
Having a good start isn’t the most important thing, since the game isn’t very punishing in the early stages, but knowing what to do right from the get-go can make a great deal of difference mentally. If the player knows their goal as soon as they start the game, they can remain focused and get things done in a satisfying way.

10Complete the Tutorial
It’s There for a Reason
As with any other game, the tutorial ofNecesseis a must-complete objective when the player first boots up the game, though only for new players who aren’t familiar with the game. It gives the player a general idea of what they can expect from the game going forward and points them in a good direction to get them started on their journey.
The mechanics of the game are quite similar to those found in other games with similar games such as Minecraft and Core Keeper, etc. However, it does have a few key differences that distinguish it from the rest. For one, the base management aspect is much more important, and for another, it has a lot of useful quality-of-life features that make playing the game a lot more fun.

9Get Familiar With the Different Menus and Controls
A Hundred Battles Too Few
“If you know the controls and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles” - Sun Tzu (possibly). There are a lot of different menus, context controls, and features inNecessethat seem very intimidating at the start. For example, the settlement menu is full of big words and menacing sub-menus that seem like a lot of work to understand, but are quite simple once the player goes through them and tries them once.
The same goes for storage chests, NPC controls, and the crafting menu. Go through the game with an open mind and try out everything that gets unlocked. The more things that the player encounters, the better their knowledge about the world, and the better their gameplay experience. There are a lot of things to experience in the game, so don’t worry about speed running through everything and experience the world as it passes.

8Make a Settlement
A Flag in the Ground Makes a Difference
The first order of business for anyNecesseplayer should be to make a settlement as soon as possible. When the player starts a new game, they will get a settlement flag. If they’re confused, they can follow the tutorial at the start to get the hang of the controls before making their settlement.
Asettlement will act as the headquartersfor all the player’s activities. Expand it when possible, adding different rooms for different NPCs, storage, crafting, and other things that the player finds necessary. Adornments for the base aren’t a requirement, but they don’t cost a lot and can add a lot of flair to a session, so there’s no harm in getting a carpenter’s table when possible and getting the furniture business started as well.

7Go Spelunking in the Caves
The Zombies Can’t Really Hurt You
Cave spelunking is the bread and butterofNecesse. Players should expect to spend most of their exploration time underground, fighting minor enemies and mini-bosses, and going through different ruins for useful loot.
Players should gather a bunch of wood, craft a lot of torches, and venture downstairs for a taste of the dark dungeons that hide from the sun. The shadows hold a lot of monsters, but they’re nothing that the player can’t handle with the right gear, and there are plenty of treasures to be found.

6Explore The Starting Island
Check Every Nook and Cranny
The starting island has a lot of secretsfor the player to uncover. They’re not the most game-breaking secrets per se, but they are quite useful early on. Exploring the island and checking all its parts is important to do before venturing further into the world.
There can be villages that have NPCs and resources. These NPCs buy and sell things that can be quite useful. Additionally, they can be recruited for the player’s base if they want. A village can be looted, and even destroyed, without any consequences other than the villager potentially dying the next night. Ruins can also be found within an island and contain high-tier loot that comes in handy the earlier the player finds it.

5Row to Other Islands
Different Biomes, Different Resources
The island that the player starts their journey on isn’t particularly big, thoughthe cave biome underneath it is quite largeand all-encompassing. Exploring the caves is quite important, but that doesn’t mean that the surface world is not worth exploring either.
After mapping out the initial zone and visiting all the villages within it, players should build a boat (which can be accomplished through the personal crafting menu or a simple crafting table) and venture out onto the sea where they can go visit different islands and biomes. Each biome will contain different resources which have a variety of uses. Use the provided crafting guidebook to check what each material does and farm it accordingly.

4Recruit Villagers and NPCs
A Healthy Settlement is a Full Settlement
Base automation and managementis one of the core gameplay mechanics ofNecesse, and the main method to manage a base after creating a masterpiece is through the settlement interface. However, without any villagers or NPCs to manage the base, there are not a lot of things that the player can do.
Villagers need food and housing to stay with the player. The better their housing and eating conditions, the better their mood. And the better their mood, the higher their productivity. More NPCs in the settlement means that more tasks will get done at a faster rate, and the player can have more bodies available when adventuring or fighting bosses.

3Start a Farm
The Stomach is the Key to Anyone’s Heart
An early farm isn’t a requirement, but as the player starts to progress and recruit more and more NPCs, the base’s food needs will climb up quite high. Therefore, players should start a small farm, as well as a pen for animals with a feeding trough, when they want to increase the population of their base.
Additionally, some ingredients for potions can be grown on farmland, making it a great way to keep a steady supply of healing potions coming in for the NPCs to use, so that the player can utilize them to their full capability without worrying about them dying.

2Get All the Basic Gear
The Basics of Life
It might seem like an obvious thing, but getting all the basic gear in your inventory as soon as possible is very important.Necessegives players a lot of inventory space to play around with, so there’s no need to worry about having a crowded inventory, at least at the start of a run.
Craft all the things that are easyto craft right off the bat, whether it be armor, different crafting stations, walls, or even doors. Use all the things that have been crafted and understand their function. The better the player understands their arsenal, the better they can utilize it as the game progresses.

1Start the Automation Process
Get Your Minions to Work
Automation is the keyto having a good time playingNecesse. Unlike a lot of base management games,Necessedoesn’t put a lot of focus on immersion or reality. This means that it has a ton of quality-of-life features that make it a lot more entertaining to play.
The NPCs are quite smart in how they act, and there are a lot of macro tasks that players can assign to NPCs. They can micromanage the NPCs if they need to, but there’s no real need. Assign different zones to different areas, recruit as many NPCs as possible, and put them to work to get the great engine of automation roaring.
