Summary

The writer behind the mangaSquid Girl, Masahiro Anbe, has announced that he will bereleasing a new seriessoon. This new series will be calledAkuma de Fukei(unofficially,Demon Policewoman).Akuma de Fukeiis currently listed to release its first volume on June 6th, 2025, via Kodansha’s Young Maga KC Special imprint. The volume has already been listed by Japanese online marketplace Rakuten.

This official announcement comes after a post by Anbe himself on his X (formerlyTwitter) page back on December 6th. At that time, Anbe had only posted that he had a new series that he was going to release soon, but no other information was available. Now, via the listing page on Rakuten, the title of the new series, a short description of the plot, and a first look at the characters are available.

A Hard-Working Mangaka

Masahiro Anbe has two other successful manga under his belt already. Arguably his most famous work has beenSquid Girl, which was published originally inWeekly Shōnen Championin 2007. The series came to an end nearly 10 years later, in February 2016.Squid Girlwasadapted into a two-season anime, which streamed in 2010 and 2011 onCrunchyroll, and was released simultaneously as it was airing in Japan.Squid Girlis still available to watch now on Crunchyroll now, more than 10 years later, as well as on HIDIVE.

Anbe’s other successful manga series wasAtsumare! Fushigi Kenkyū-bu(Assemble! Mystery Research Club).Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyū-buwas also published inWeekly Shōnen Championfrom September 2016, just seven months afterSquid Girlconcluded.Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyū-bujust finished in July 2024, and there are currentlyno plans for an anime adaptation. Now, just under a year after its conclusion, Anbe is back at it again with his latest series.

A Demon Policewoman’s Tale (or Tail?)

The listing for the first volume ofAkuma de Fukeican be found onRakuten, which has shared the most information about the new series that we have. The description of the manga on the listing reads (translated from Japanese),

The creator ofSquid GirlandAtsumare! Fushigi Kenkyū-butakes on the challenge of an everyday romantic comedy with a devilish policewoman that will make anyone swoon! Eclair, a demon, comes all the way from the demon world to a police box in a country town in search of an evil man who is suitable to be her servant. She is attracted to Daichi Kuwabara, a police officer with a bad guy’s face. Eclair wants to get rid of Daichi and Daichi wants to drive Eclair back to the demon world……but Daichi can’t leave Eclair alone because she is cannot be trusted to be on her own.

The description is also accompanied by the first piece of art available forAkuma de Fukei, which shows the characters of Eclair and Daichi in their police uniforms. Eclair has anobvious demon tailin the artwork.

As stated above, the listing has the release date for the first volume ofAkuma de Fukeias June 6th, 2025, though it is important to remember that this will be the Japanese version’s release. Seeing as the series has already been picked up by Kodansha, though, there is a high chance that an English version will be released sometime as well. The first volume will have 192 pages, and has a listing price of 792 yen ($5 USD).
